Cambridge Associates – Portfolio Insight

essary risk and identify return opportuni- ties. Net-zero investment strategies go above and beyond this by concentrating on real world outcomes. We have a number of clients with ambi- tions to lead the way on net zero by set- ting targets earlier than 2050. They are doing this to exploit first mover advantage and/or

because they appreciate the

urgency of what needs to happen and want to lead the way. Regardless of motivations, the opportuni- ties offered by the energy transition are wide and compelling.

Clients tend to come to us because of our ability to customise their strategy. Cam- bridge Associates has been offering cus- tomised advice for the past five decades, as we do not have a range of pre-packaged

funds to offer. We do not say: “Oh, you are a sustainable investor, here’s a pre-made portfolio you can invest in.” Everything we do is customised from the bottom up. We have a unique value proposition for clients whereby we ask what they are try- ing to achieve and by when? “What inves- tor are you? Let me build a portfolio that fits you and your values.”

The third theme, which is a big focus for our US clients in particular, is diversity, equality and inclusion. We serve a large number of clients that understand the opportunity and the need to have invest- ment managers in their portfolio that reflect the composition of the population. These clients have engaged with us intensely during the past four years to help them fund promising emerging

diverse managers. Cambridge Associates defines a diverse manager as an invest- ment team where at least 33% of the eco- nomics are distributed to individuals who are categorised as under-represented minorities. This representation is meas- ured across race, gender and ethnicity. There is an incredible opportunity-set that is presenting itself, particularly in the private markets space such as venture capital and private equity. We help clients build portfolios with managers who oper- ate within this sector early in their lifecycle.

Our clients also understand that the pri- vate world is generally where you can make the most difference as you are offer- ing primary capital used to restructure businesses.
