INDUSTRY NEWS Bessey begins new chapter with Rowland Tools
WEST Yorkshire-based Rowland Tools has become the sole UK distributor of Bessey Tools after being acquired by former MD of Gedore UK, Mathew Hydleman.
The move marks a period of expansion for the company as it strengthens and reinforces its reputation for stocking premium-range industry tools and equipment.
Mathew had been MD of Gedore UK (formerly LJ Hydleman) for 22 years, but when, in 2018, the parent company decided to stock only their own manufactured products, he decided to find a new home for the Bessey brand – best known for producing premium quality woodworking clamps, welding clamps and snips.
“We had been building up Bessey for many years at Gedore and it became a very well-known brand in its own right,” explained Mathew. “When Gedore decided it would only be stocking its own ranges, it seemed too good an opportunity to miss.
“Rowland Tools was a local company to where I was in Skipton and they had the agency of Bondhus Tools - an American

brand which I’d known for years as the best in ball-ended and hex keys. So not only did Rowland Tools already deal in premium range tools, it also had accounts open with many of the same customers that I knew from Gedore.
“The result was that, for many existing Bessey customers, the transition from Gedore UK to Rowland Tools was pretty seamless. In many cases it was simply a matter of changing the supplier name on their purchase ledger.”
