Materials testing service takes off at Heathrow

❱ ❱ Analyser room fitted with state of the art emissions testing equipment

❱ ❱ Multiple vehicle soak space

THE UNIT INCLUDES THE FOLLOWING FACILITIES

• Nitrogen Generator: Continually produces nitrogen from compressed air using a carbon molecular sieve, generating up to 1000 lit/min

• Nitrogen Purge Unit: stores up to 2000 lit of nitrogen at 8 bar and is part of the safety system. Nitrogen is released into the thermal chamber in the event of a fire

• Battery Exerciser: allows performance and functionality verification of battery packs by performing accurate and representative current or power cycling profiles

• Thermal Chamber: ensures a controllable and consistent ambient temperature throughout the cell characterisation/ ageing test duration

• Cell Exerciser: allows cell characterisation and cell ageing tests to a high level of precision over the entire range of cell operation

• Cell/Battery Cooling System: controls the cell/battery to the desired test temperature and removes influences from cell internal heat generation

• Testing Area: a bespoke test area remote from the power electronics, where the battery is placed under test and subjected to performance and functionality verification plans

• Hardware-in-the-Loop testing (see also page 20): allows the simulation of vehicle, charger and battery pack interactions without the need for a full vehicle. This simulates a working environment for the target hardware, isolating the functionality of the unit under test.

A

state-of-the-art construction materials testing laboratory has opened its doors close to Heathrow Airport, as demand for specialist services grows nationwide. As one of the UKs leading providers of materials

testing and specialist geotechnical services, the expansion of CET’s nationwide network of laboratory facilities is further evidence of their commitment to providing service excellence. The new laboratory will see an expansion of the current

capacity for concrete, aggregate, asphalt and core testing. Staffed by a team of 15 experienced technicians, the new facility will offer a range of tests associated with construction and infrastructure projects. It will also provide a local resource for contractors operating within the busy Thames Valley and M4 development corridor. The new 2,500ft2

facility is situated on the Britannia

Industrial Estate in Colnbrook and adds to the existing capacity at sister sites in Harrietsham (Kent), Wolvey (Leicestershire), Billericay (Essex), Doncaster (Yorkshire) and East Kilbride (Scotland). Peter Eglinton, Chief Executive of CET, explains: “Our

customers expect both quality and speed of services, and our new site at Heathrow ensures we continue to provide this as we expand. We now operate with more than 100 technicians across six nationwide sites and are proud that, as we grow, we maintain our focus on our staff and customers.” In addition to a wider geographical presence, the new

facility is an opportunity for CET to bring its technology-led propositions to a broader audience. CETi, the online test results database and analytics tool, will be in use from day one, providing even faster access to accurate test results. An intuitive, web-based application, CETi provides much needed automation and intelligence to what has traditionally been a manual process. The app delivers alerts when results are ready and provides long-term access to archived results. Changing or adding to a schedule of tests is quick and easy and, to ensure compliance, online approvals for changes can be included in the workflow. EE
