During the conference hymns were learned using the new Tamil transla- tion hymnbook sponsored by the Tabernacle. In the absence of key- boards and players in many churches, progress is slow. Ladies’ meetings and Sunday Schools at various churches kept Joan Laws and Jeyakanth’s wife Vani busy, and medical examina- tions occupied retired nurse Sarah Townsend.
New Christian hostels have been built in Mullaitivu, Valaichenai and Meddecombra, with plans underway

for Batticaloa and Muthur, in response to the loss of the two children’s or- phanages at 6th Mile Post some years ago. The 6th Mile Post buildings are being used to provide meals and tui- tion to about 30 children. The outreach church at Pastor Jeya- kanth’s own house meets on Sunday evenings. No teaching service is held there, the aim of the evangelistic meet- ing being to introduce new converts to the nearby church at 6th Mile Post. The gathering has expanded from about 15 two years ago to about 60-70 today. Ten or twelve Hindus were pre- sent for the preaching of the Gospel on our Sunday there. A deaf group now meets at 6th Mile
