The following information will help in identifying the scope and range of our expertise in handling inserts. Please pay particular attention to our request regarding your inserts arriving at S&G and in the manner of their identification. We handle a great many publications and it is imperative that the inserts arrive on time and are clearly identified with the publication and issue date.

Inserts can be applied in many varied forms in the periodical printing industry, so it is an advantage to both client and printer if they are understood and controlled. Some of the most common categories are listed below.

LOOSE INSERTS – BY MACHINE

The specification of these inserts is vital if they are to be machine inserted efficiently, please see our insert checklist on page three for further information.

LOOSE INSERTS - BY HAND

The specification of these is not as important as the machine inserts however these are be more expensive and time consuming - please allow extra time in your schedule.

BOUND AND STITCHED INSERTS

Follow our guidelines to save you time and money.

SPECIFIC POSITION INSERTS

If you require an insert placed in a specified position these will require placing by hand, this makes them a more dramatic but expensive option.

OUTSERTS

Please discuss these with your Account Manager. Certain types can be dealt with efficiently on our mailing line provided they are specified accordingly and organised before production commences.

COVER-MOUNTS

We can cover-mount various items (CD’s, sachets etc). The specification of the product will determine the amount of time and cost required.

PAGE-MOUNTS

We can page-mount various items (CD’s, sachets etc). The specification of the product will determine the amount of time and cost required.

BELLY-BANDS / BAND-WRAPS AND SPREAD-MARKERS

We are able to apply pre-printed bands around the outer of a printed product. These normally carry an advertisement; they can also be applied to internal pages therefore forcing the recipient to open the product to a specific internal page.

For all the categories listed above please ensure that a sample is sent to your Account Manager prior to the production date. Upon receipt they will then be able to determine how much extra time will be required and confirm a final cost to you.
