With encouragement from the adults, children made signs about the different parts of the castle and hung labels. They thought about who lived in the castle, and why, and whether they would like to live in one. They invented their own history for their castle.
The adults were thrilled about how excited the children were and how much learning was going on. They linked it to all kinds of topics – Kings, Knights and dragons, Traditional Tales – to name but a few. But even when it wasn’t obviously part of a topic, the castle was still used all the time for all kinds of games and activities. Children loved to take cushions and read there.
