Montreal’s giant observation wheel opens

From Dutch Wheels BV, La Grande roue de Montréal has opened to the public in the Old Port of Montreal, Quebec. Panoramic views of the city, the river, and Old Montreal can be seen from atop Canada’s largest observation wheel’s 60-meter (197 ft) height. On clear days one can see up to a 28 km (17 mile) radius. Two to three full rotations provide a total ride time of 15 to 20 minutes. Each of the 42 gondolas are air conditioned in the summer and heated in the winter, with access for persons with reduced mobility. High quality glass blocks UV rays, never fogs up, and guarantees pristine views. One luxury VIP Cabin with top-quality Italian leather seats and glass floor is available for the intrepid. Nearing completion at the base of the Grand roue is a Bistro, Cafe, bar, and a 300-seat patio. The $27 million ( 18.4 million) project was fully financed by private investment. “We are extremely proud to be offering this world-class attraction to Montrealers and visitors,” said Jeff Jorgensen, president, La Grande roue de Montréal. “La

Grande roue de Montréal is an ambitious undertaking – the wheel, and the facilities at its base, would normally have taken one year to build; we accomplished it in seven months, in spite of a few imponderables to deal with. We know that people have been anxiously awaiting this experience and I can assure them they will not be disappointed.”
