A new frontier


With an interactive dark ride at its heart, Popcorn Revenge exploded onto the scene at Walibi Belgium – a park owned and operated by the French entertainment group Compagnie des Alpes – in May, delighting visitors and piquing the interest of parks worldwide. Re-writing the rules of visitor centric experiences Alterface’s award-winning ride has since been rolled out as a turnkey solution for family and regional theme parks. But the story doesn’t end there. In an exclusive chat with Park World editor, Becci Knowles, founder and CEO Benoit Cornet reveals plans to take Popcorn Revenge beyond the dark ride, into the light....

lterface and its advanced interactive rides had long been on Compagnie des Alpes’ radar so there was no hesitation when Benoit and the


team presented the world’s first Erratic Ride featuring its proprietary Popcorn Revenge IP. Jean-Christophe Parent, managing director of Walibi Belgium, explains: “Our request to Alterface was to create an exciting cinema world with an innovative touch in terms of ride experience. They met and even exceeded these expectations. The popcorn expressions and gags are universal and appeal to all ages, with unsurpassed image rendering and projection quality. The new Erratic Ride obviously involved some technical challenges but we managed to get it all right and work


smoothly together with Alterface teams and expert partners. Seeing the unique jewel that we produced, we can now celebrate and enjoy it!” An overnight success for Walibi, like all great ideas and


stories, Popcorn Revenge was in the making for quite some time. “It all began six years ago with a visit to Cinecitta Park in Italy. The idea was to find something more engaging to feature in the deserted studios. While the idea of the Popcorn arrived at that moment, it took the team great efforts and even greater frustration to get to the Popcorn as we know them now,” says Benoit. A simple story with captivating characters, the popcorns


are tired of being eaten and never getting to see the end of the movies. “The Popcorns do not attack the players, they
