CONTENTS In this issue... Dear Reader,

Welcome to the latest issue of Education Today, I hope you had a restful Easter and are suitably refreshed as we move into what will undoubtedly be a very busy summer term. In the magazine this month we take

our annual, in-depth look at the troubling issue of childhood obesity, a trend which will certainly have been exacerbated over the past year as lockdowns have curbed so many young people’s activities. In the first of three features looking at the topic, we hear from Brian Cape, CEO at SIPS Education, who examines the ongoing challenges of obesity in schoolchildren, and what local authorities, schools, and organisations such as his own can do to fight it. In the second, Chris Bennett, Head of Behaviour Change and Engagement at Sustrans, tells us about the charity’s Big Pedal event taking place at the beginning of the summer term; and in the third feature, Linzi McLagan, Head of Education at YDance, the national dance organisation for children and young people in Scotland, outlines the ways her organisation has been using dance to improve young people’s mental and physical health, wellbeing and aspiration. We also have a great feature on

homework this month, courtesy of Mark Raymont, maths teacher at All Saints Academy Plymouth, who shares his ideas on how to use EdTech to involve parents more with their children’s homework. Of course, we also have all the

regular contributors, news, views and collaborations you’ve come to expect. Remember, we love to hear from you, you can get in touch with us via Twitter @EdTodayMag, as well as by phone or email.

Enjoy the issue!
