Champion Schools: putting teachers at the heart of educational innovation

settings and understand how they work for teachers and learners. It helps ensure that our products remain practical, effective and responsive to the needs of schools.

Importantly, the relationship is not one-way. While Champion Schools support White Rose Education, they also support one another. Through a programme of collaboration and professional dialogue, schools share experiences, discuss challenges and showcase successful approaches from their own settings. This creates opportunities for educators to learn from peers facing similar opportunities and challenges, whether they are working in a primary school in Yorkshire, an international school in Singapore or a growing academy in the Middle East.

One of the key ways this happens is through our quarterly Champion Schools Forum. These regular gatherings bring together subject leaders and senior educators from across the network to discuss emerging issues, exchange ideas and explore effective practice. The forums create valuable opportunities for professional learning and provide a platform for schools to contribute directly to wider conversations about teaching and learning.

A

t White Rose Education, our mission is simple: world-class education for everyone, everywhere. It’s an ambitious goal, but one that drives everything we do. We believe that every child, regardless of where they live or the school they attend, deserves access to high-quality teaching and learning. Achieving that ambition requires more than creating great resources. It requires meaningful partnerships with the educators who use them every day.

That belief sits at the heart of our Champion Schools initiative.

Expanded this year, the White Rose Champion Schools programme brings together schools from across the UK and around the world into a collaborative network of educators committed to excellence. These schools are recognised not only for their effective use of White Rose resources, but also for their willingness to share expertise, support others and help shape the future of education. The initiative creates a vibrant community where schools learn from one another while contributing directly to the development of the tools and resources that support classrooms globally. Too often, educational organisations develop products in isolation from the realities of everyday teaching. We have always sought to do things differently. Not only are we fortunate enough to belong to the fantastic Trinity Multi-Academy Trust, serving more than 8,000 young people across six local authorities in the North of England, but, thanks to the Champion Schools initiative, we now have an even stronger connection with the profession, ensuring that teachers remain at the centre of everything we create.

The collaborative spirit of the programme extends beyond these forums. Champion Schools regularly co-create materials and events alongside our specialists at White Rose Education intended to support more widely, e.g. webinars sharing practical insights and examples from their own classrooms, blogs, case studies, in-person workshops and thought leadership pieces that showcase innovative practice and help other schools learn from their experiences. By amplifying the voices of practising teachers, we are able to share authentic examples of educational excellence that resonate with educators across different contexts.

What has been particularly inspiring is the enthusiasm schools have shown for supporting the wider profession. Champion Schools understand that educational improvement is strongest when it is collaborative. Many actively mentor and support other schools, sharing expertise and encouraging colleagues to reflect on and develop their own practice. In doing so, they help create a culture where success is shared and improvement becomes a collective endeavour rather than an individual pursuit.

As the network continues to grow, so too does its potential impact. Every conversation, every webinar, every piece of feedback and every shared success story helps us move closer to our mission of world-class education for everyone, everywhere. The Champion Schools initiative demonstrates what can be achieved when educational organisations and schools work together as genuine partners.

Champion Schools play a vital role in helping us refine and improve our resources. They provide feedback on new ideas, take part in surveys and discussions, and trial emerging products before they are released more widely. This partnership allows us to test innovations in real classroom

For White Rose Education, Champion Schools are far more than a recognition programme. They are a community of innovators, collaborators and advocates for educational excellence. Together, we are building a network that not only supports individual schools but helps shape the future of teaching and learning for children around the world.
