UK Construction Week Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Quartet of New Shows for London Event in 2025

In April 2025, UK Construction Week (UKCW) is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a revamped event at ExCeL London, set to take place from 7–9 May. This year’s event introduces several exciting new features and co-located shows, further cementing UKCW as the UK’s largest construction trade show.

For the first time, UKCW will be co-located with The Stone Show & Hard Surfaces, offering a unique opportunity to explore materials like natural stone, tiles, and hard surfaces. New sections include Workwear & PPE Live, focusing on construction clothing and accessories, and Onsite On Hire, showcasing tools, compact plant, and equipment. Additionally, HVACR Live will spotlight heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration solutions.

Networking will be a key part of the event, with a Design & Build Networking & Drinks Reception on 7th May, hosted by Michaela Wain, and a Women in Construction Lunch on 9 May in association with Women in Natural Stone.

UKCW 2025 is expected to draw over 18,000 visitors and will run alongside The Offsite Show and Grand Designs Live, making it a significant gathering for construction professionals. A new VIP pass will provide fast-track entry, exclusive access to a VIP Lounge, and free on-site parking, enhancing the experience for key industry figures. With a wider range of exhibitors and expanded networking opportunities, UKCW 2025 promises to be an essential event for those in the construction industry, including offsite construction.

Legal & General Modular Housing to Close by end of 2025

Legal & General Modular Housing, part of the financial services giant, announced in 2023 that it would wind down its modular housing operations by 2025. The move comes aſter a difficult period for the company’s modular division, which reported a pre-tax loss of £61.1 million for the year ending 31 December 2023.

The company has faced significant challenges in achieving the scale and profitability it had anticipated when it first entered the offsite housing market. Legal & General’s modular housing division was part of the firm’s strategy to revolutionise the construction industry, but the project has faced numerous obstacles, including high costs and supply chain disruptions.

As part of the restructuring, the company has indicated that it will shiſt its focus towards other forms of sustainable development. Despite this setback, Legal & General remains committed to supporting affordable housing solutions through different initiatives and funding avenues.

Berkeley Group Exits Modular Housing Sector

In March 2025, Berkeley Group, one of the UK’s leading housebuilders, made the significant decision to exit the modular housing sector by selling its Northfleet-based modular housing factory in Kent. The factory, which had been central to Berkeley’s venture into volumetric offsite construction, was put up for auction with expectations to raise £30 million.

The decision reflects a broader trend in the housing sector, where certain developers are scaling back their investment in modular construction amid mixed results. Despite the government’s strong push for modern methods of construction (MMC) to help solve the housing crisis, Berkeley’s withdrawal signals a shiſt in strategic priorities.

The company’s focus is now shiſting towards traditional housing delivery methods as it navigates the challenges of the UK’s construction market. While the modular sector has shown promise in addressing housing shortages, it has struggled with cost and supply chain issues, which appear to have influenced Berkeley’s decision.

British Offsite Opens £45m Factory to Boost Housing Delivery

British Offsite, a division of Weston Group plc, has unveiled a new £45 million, 137,000 sq ſt modular housing facility in Braintree, Essex. The cutting-edge factory, named ‘Horizon,’ represents a significant investment in the future of offsite construction in the UK. Designed in collaboration with Swedish firm Randek AB, Horizon is equipped with advanced robotics and automated manufacturing processes that will enable the production of up to 4,000 new homes annually. This expansion aims to address the UK’s pressing housing shortage, particularly in urban areas where land availability is limited.

Horizon’s factory will not only supply homes to Weston Homes but will also serve the wider construction market, delivering modular components and full turnkey solutions. The factory’s opening is a testament to the growing confidence in offsite construction as a viable alternative to traditional building methods, especially in light of the need for faster and more sustainable housing delivery. By focusing on speed, quality, and sustainability, British Offsite aims to meet growing demand and support government efforts to tackle the housing crisis.

Integra Buildings Secures Spot on £10bn Government Framework

Integra Buildings, a modular housing manufacturer based in East Yorkshire, secured a place on the UK government’s £10 billion Offsite Construction Solutions framework. This significant achievement places Integra among a select group of suppliers eligible to tender for high-profile public sector construction contracts. These contracts span multiple sectors, including healthcare, housing, education, and defence, providing a major boost for the company’s growth prospects.

Integra’s expertise in offsite construction aligns with the UK’s growing commitment to modern methods of construction (MMC) as part of the effort to tackle the housing crisis. The inclusion in the framework also offers the company the opportunity to contribute to the government’s levelling-up agenda, which focuses on improving infrastructure and housing in underserved regions. With increasing demand for sustainable, energy-efficient homes, Integra is well-positioned to play a leading role in the delivery of cost-effective, high-quality modular buildings across the public sector.
