INDUSTRY NEWS PROJECT TO DEVELOP LOW-LEVEL WIND PANELS GETS UNDERWAY
A new partnership between Katrick Technologies and the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) will help the UK reap the benefits of low-level wind energy generation. As a result of the partnership, Katrick expects a first prototype of its technology, which uses kinetic energy from wind to generate green energy. Katrick Technologies has designed a wind panel system that maximises the amount of kinetic energy captured, while addressing the limitations of traditional turbines. The low-level wind panels contain multi-layered aerofoils, which oscillate independently as wind passes through them, creating pockets of energy that can then be converted into sustainable electricity. Katrick estimates that, if installed along a one kilometre stretch of road, the panels would generate
the MTC will facilitate the next step in the project’s development plan by helping Katrick to showcase the prototype to its network of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and energy investment companies. “Discovering green energy alternatives should

BAXI AND H2GO COMMIT TO DEVELOPING GREEN HYDROGEN-BASED TECHNOLOGY
Baxi and H2GO Power, an innovator in hydrogen-based software and hardware solutions, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding
(MoU) formalising their commitment to develop innovative green hydrogen-based technology that will tackle both heat decarbonisation and energy reliability. The MoU was signed by Baxi’s MD Karen Boswell and Enass Abo-Hamed, H2GO’s CEO, at a presentation of their carbon-neutral heat-in-a-box system held at Baxi’s Dartford Training Centre. Before it can be transported to homes and businesses through the network, the pressure of the gas must be reduced. This process can cause it to freeze, so pre-heating takes place to allow the gas to flow. Traditional pre-heating units are highly energy and cost intensive. Heat-in-the-box will lower the cost of pre-heating, while delivering the supply at much lower costs for applications at a massive scale. The aim of the trial is to demonstrate how the heat-in-a-box system can supply heat for gas pre-heating in a safe and carbon-neutral manner, with the potential to supply renewable heating for other operations. Heat-in-a-box combines electrolysis, hydrogen storage technology and Baxi’s hydrogen boiler, the

EFFICIENTLY LIGHTING KINGS CROSS
LEDVANCE LED lighting solutions have been installed across platforms 1-8 at London’s historic Kings Cross Station in a move that will significantly reduce maintenance costs and energy consumption while future-proofing the building’s illumination systems. The new luminaires had to be reliable and energy efficient, but had to look the same as the old lamps for the Victorian building, which is considered to be a site of national significance. So, the retrofit saw numerous traditional 400W metal halide lamps replaced with LEDVANCE High Bay DALI 115W 4000k luminaires with IP65 protection, fitted with high quality aluminium reflectors.

Cenergist’s chief executive officer (CEO), Mitesh Dhanak, has been appointed to the steering group of the UK government’s new Energy Efficiency Taskforce. The taskforce will devise a workplan to help reduce total UK energy demand by 15% from 2021 levels by 2030 across domestic and commercial buildings and industrial processes.
ABB has been awarded the contract for front-end design services for automation, electrical and advanced digital solutions at Cerilon’s first gas- to-liquids (GTL) facility. The greenfield site in North Dakota, USA, will produce up to 24,000 barrels (3.8 million litres) per day of high-performance synthetic energy products including ultra-low sulfur diesel (ULSD), naphtha and lubricant base oils from natural gas reserves.
