INLINE QUALITY CONTROL SYSTEMS

AI-driven inspection for unpredictable products In the bakery, snack, and confectionery industries — where products such as chocolate tablets, pralines, and confectionery naturally vary in shape, surface texture, and appearance, SENSURE has become a leading provider of advanced, AI-driven quality inspection. Its vision platforms integrate 2D, 3D, thermal, and multispectral imaging with a self-learning approach, enabling the system to adapt dynamically to products that rarely look exactly alike. Daniele Vaglietti, Sales and Marketing

Director at SENSURE tells us, “SENSURE uses AI algorithms to classify products as compliant or non-compliant and to detect defects and irregularities with high precision. This ensures best-in-class quality control and maximises packaging efficiency, even in highly variable environments, without the need for time-consuming manual setup or recipe creation.” A key strength of SENSURE technology is

its ability to learn directly on the line. “The software automatically adapts to production variables in real time and proposes quality ‘recipes’ and tolerance limits for each detected feature, based on live production data. Operators can then refine thresholds or highlight critical attributes, maintaining full control of the process while benefiting from

a highly simplified workflow that traditional systems cannot match,” explains Daniele. “SENSURE systems continuously measure

key product attributes—including shape, size, colour, thickness, volume, moisture, and temperature—before and after different steps in the production process,” he added. “This contamination-free inspection ensures each production step is working at its best and contributes to waste reduction.” The hardware operates across both visible and non-visible spectra using state-of-the-art technologies: 2D linear and matrix cameras, 3D systems (laser triangulation, stereo vision, structured light, time-of-flight), IR/SWIR/ hyperspectral sensors, and thermal cameras. These tools allow total control even at very high production speeds. SENSURE also interfaces seamlessly with PLCs and robots to create the rejection mechanism best suited to each application, ensuring that even a single non-compliant product is correctly removed from the line at full production speed. “Beyond inspection, the platform provides

valuable process insights: trend data, waste analysis, defect root-cause indicators, and real-time alerts. Manufacturers use this information to optimise upstream operations— such as depositor calibration, oven stability, or dosing accuracy—ultimately reducing waste, improving yield, and ensuring consistently high product quality,” Daniele concludes.
