toves is a brand that has beco me synonymous with British manufacturing, having led the Made in Britain campaign early in the last decade. Its heritage stretches right back to 1920 when it was established in Warrington, making heaters and camping stoves before moving to Prescot just a few short years later, where it still operates its manufacturing base today. In this special issue of ERT, to mark Stoves’ Centenary, we look back at the company’s varied history and some of the areas of cooking manufacture where it has led the way over the last 100 years. There’s certainly no doubt that consumer trends in the home, and especially the kitchen, have changed dramatically over the last century, with the increased adoption of new technologies. In the 1920s, ‘Bluetooth connectivity’ and ‘built-in’ were unknown terms, and cooking techniques – and even the ingredients – were very different; but over time, Stoves became known for its innovation and the high-tech features of its products. The manufacturer has proved that it has stood the test of time, and today its products are sold all over the world. In this issue we take a look at where the brand is heading with its latest products. We will also hear from some longstanding Stoves employees – some of whom have worked for the company for more than half a century – who share their stories and anecdotes of how they started with the company and what their favourite products have been over the years. I hope you enjoy reading this special issue of ERT as much as I have enjoyed putting it together and learning more about the history of Stoves.
