NEWS Promoting Ireland’s Digital Transformation


The global immersive technology sector, encompassing augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), spatial computing, and mixed reality (MR), collectively referred to as extended reality (XR), is currently valued at €3 billon. A new report, produced by


Cultural & Creative Industries Skillnet sets out to better understand future skills challenges of the immersive sector within the Irish market as well identifying the needs and opportunities of this still zemerging area.


The report was prepared with input from stakeholders across the Irish domestic ecosystem, including industry, government, large enterprise, SMEs, research, and education. It provides a strategy to support the further development of the Irish immersive technology sector. This report looks at key indicators of the evolution of immersive technology such as the global pandemic which accelerated the rate of technological use and adoption and the continued and intensified investment by big tech


has changed the way society works and brought about an immersive technology revolution. Tracey Donnery, director of


communications and policy at Skillnet Ireland, said: “This report offers a comprehensive examination of both the opportunities and challenges associated with advancing a vibrant immersive technology sector. It also emphasises the significance of collaboration across different stakeholder groups in fostering an effective talent development ecosystem.


“This collaboration will drive


knowledge exchange, visibility for the sector, and partnerships between industry and academia, all of which are essential for innovation.”


Dates announced for Advanced Engineering 2024


Advanced Engineering UK will return to the NEC in Birmingham on October 30 and 31, showcasing more innovation from the manufacturing and engineering industry. With six months to go, the halls are quickly filling up as businesses from across the entire supply chain race to secure a spot. In 2023, over 400 companies exhibited at Advanced Engineering, along with a further 202 at its co-located show, Lab Innovations. Visitors, which included representatives from


Airbus, Rolls-Royce, IBM, Boeing, McLaren, BAE Systems, Catapult HVM, Department for International Trade, Jaguar Land Rover and many more, had the opportunity to access both shows with one badge, meaning that they had the opportunity to explore an even wider range of products and services. “Advanced Engineering prides itself on bringing together the UK’s engineering and manufacturing industry to share ideas, do business and move our industry forwards,” said Alison Willis, director at Easyfairs, the organiser of Advanced Engineering.


Rhonda Doyle appointed VP of customer operations at Schneider Electric


Schneider Electric has appointed Rhonda Doyle as its new vice president of customer operations in the UK and Ireland. This follows the appointment of Kristin Hanley, who previously held the post, to vice president of sales excellence and marketing for the UK and Ireland business.


The new role will see Ms Doyle take the lead on customer care, satisfaction and quality, business systems, business tendering and project management, alongside developing new strategies to transform end-to-end customer digital experiences. Prior to this, she held the post of senior director of field service operations since joining Schneider Electric

in 2021. During that time, she played an integral role in growing the services side of the business to support customers’ digitalisation and sustainability strategies. Ms Doyle said: “Digitising processes is at the core of Schneider Electric’s overall strategy. Our suite of smart digital monitoring tools contribute to greater energy efficiencies for customers and in how we directly communicate and engage with customers. “Our goal is to deliver end-to-end solutions that


allow us to connect digitally with customers – and respond to their needs faster and with greater accuracy but also cater for the needs of the various business units.”
