RHENUS ACQUIRES C+G LOGISTICS T

he leading logistics service provider Rhenus is undergoing a period of sustained growth,

with its latest acquisition seeing Irish chemical logistics specialist C+G Logistics join the team. The acquisition, which was finalised in early

February, sees C+G Logistics added to the Rhenus network. Headquartered in Mulhuddart, Dublin, the chemical storage and transportation specialist has more than 40 years’ experience in handling raw materials, ingredients and chemicals, furthering the already established position of the Rhenus Group within the chemical market. The acquisition enables further expansion of

the services Rhenus can offer to its growing customer base across Ireland. The C+G facility also provides full Seveso capabilities with 5,000 square metres of dedicated hazardous goods storage. The addition of C+G Logistics coupled with the

recent rebrand of Avant Air & Sea (acquired by Rhenus in October 2018) to Rhenus Air & Ocean illustrates the company’s ability to embrace the continued growth and demand increase across Ireland’s logistics sector. C+G has built a strong reputation on its

‘customer-centric’ approach, an ethos which mirrors the Rhenus business strategy, making for a perfect marriage between the two companies. Declan Sinnott, managing director at Rhenus

Logistics Ireland, added: “The acquisition of C+G Logistics is a milestone in the ongoing development of Rhenus in Ireland, and we’re delighted to expand the scope of services we can offer our clients, both existing and new.” Patrick Wogan, general manager of C+G,

commented on the move: “Joining the Rhenus family is an important step for our business,

BECKHOFF VIRTUAL VISITS KEEP INDUSTRY CONNECTED T

o support industry in remaining connected and productive during the ongoing COVID-19 situation, automation technology specialist

Beckhoff Automation UK is running a series of “virtual visit” webinars. Taking place every Wednesday, the webinars aim to provide engineers, technicians and industrial managers with practical information on key automation technologies and issues. Information on the upcoming webinars is available on the Beckhoff UK blog. The topics for Beckhoff UK’s webinars are determined based on feedback

received from customers and interested engineers. The current topics include methods for sizing servo motors and modelling servo applications, first steps to deploying Beckhoff’s TwinCAT Vision software for machine vision systems, and an exploration of programmable versus non- programmable safety. Each webinar will be available on the Beckhoff blog after broadcast. They

will remain accessible alongside the existing EtherCAT network diagnostics and debugging webinar that Beckhoff ran at the beginning of April 2020. Alongside the ongoing webinars, Beckhoff UK will arrange a series of

virtual visits directly with customers, to help them plan and adapt around the ongoing effects of the COVID-19 situation on industry. “If there is one thing that all industrial businesses know, it’s that industry

can’t, and doesn’t, just stop,” said Stephen Hayes, managing director of Beckhoff Automation UK. “Whether a company is a critical business that is directly contributing to address the impact of COVID-19, or an industrial business that is adapting to these changes, Beckhoff wants to support in as many ways as it can during this time. “These webinars are equal-parts aimed at offering advice and guidance

to engineers, and at keeping in touch with customers during a time when everybody is distanced. The weekly webinars will take an informal, relaxed tone because they are as much about the connection between Beckhoff and the engineers that trust our technologies, as they are about industrial connectivity itself.” Beckhoff will also run more formal webinar versions of its successful

skills lab sessions over the coming months. Lead by specialists from the Beckhoff Automation UK team, these sessions will go into technical depth about more specific industry applications, such as advanced guidance for Beckhoff’s TwinCAT and TwinSAFE software. To view Beckhoff UK’s webinars and keep up to date with the latest

topics being discussed, visit the Beckhoff UK blog or follow Beckhoff Automation UK on LinkedIn.

www.beckhoff.co.uk SMURFIT KAPPA HELPS BIDFOOD SUPPORT 1.5 MILLION VULNERABLE UK RESIDENTS S

murfit Kappa has been selected by food service provider Bidfood to facilitate its

packaging requirements following the UK Government’s recent agreement to send food parcels to 1.5 million vulnerable people in the UK during the coronavirus pandemic. Those identified as vulnerable, who have

registered for a care package online, have begun to receive the parcels, which contain 20 essential items including pasta, fresh / tinned fruit, milk and bread as well as items such as

toilet rolls and shower gel. A full dedicated team within the Smurfit Kappa

Yate corrugated plant, supported by the Smurfit Kappa paper division and Downton Logistics, rose to the challenge to ensure Bidfood’s needs were met promptly. An impressive turnaround time of just three days was achieved, from enquiry to delivery, into nine Bidfood depots. The effort by all at Smurfit Kappa Yate has

been well received by Bidfood. Richard Ranby, director of procurement & property at Bidfood,

said: “During this national crisis, we’ve been delighted with the support that Smurfit Kappa have provided in turning around essential supply boxes so rapidly for the Government’s local supply scheme, which has been crucial in our efforts to feed hundreds of thousands who are extremely vulnerable, and in isolation. “We’ve all had to work closely together to

move at pace to mobilise what has been the biggest effort of its kind since the Second World War.”
