icky Nuttall greeted delegates at the GIMA Day Conference, which took place at Horticulture House in Didcot, Oxfordshire
on March 23. She announced that GIMA had seen its third year of net growth in members the previous year, welcoming a number of new companies, including Garden Pride, Eco Egg, Cedar Associates, Kadai Firebowls and Select International Products. She also revealed that the Garden Re-Leaf walk had so far raised a whopping £24,500. The date for next year’s Garden
Press Event was also confirmed as February 28. The boutique garden event, which GIMA acquired in partnership with the HTA last November, will also have a new home in 2018, as it re-locates to the Business Design Centre in North London. The association is excited about the new venue, which is lighter and more spacious than the event’s previous home. Lastly, Ms Nuttall gave details

Mein took to the floor to talk about the show, confirm in that more than 80% of stand space is already booked for this year’s event in September. He revealed that last year’s show attracted 7,000 visitors, adding that 86% of visitors who attended last year will place an order with a supplier as a result of the show. He discussed the show’s plans
to expand into Hall 6 of the NEC Birmingham, adding that it is the third year Glee has been in its new home and it has expanded every year. The 2017 event will stretch across Halls 6, 17, 18, 19 and 20. The show has unveiled new
branding and a new website this month ahead and this year’s show will feature a new Retail Lab concept, which will be based around consumer insight and expert trend knowledge. A free-to-attend exhibitor workshop in June will see three buyers share their thoughts on how they shop the show to help exhibitors capitalise on their time at Glee. Mr Mein also discussed the
launch of Glee at Spring Fair in February 2018, which will operate as a concession in hall 3 of the NEC. “It’s a concession, so it will be all of the best bits,” he told delegates. “It’s an opportunity to take advantage of a new date and for retailers to top up orders. It brings a gardening- focused section to Spring Fair and will be a really edited area – we’re not going to be bringing more home and gift into Glee.” He explained that it will focus around three core areas: landscaping & garden decoration, garden care, and outdoor entertaining. September 2018 will see another
re-fresh for Glee, according to Mr Mein, with a new floorplan layout, utilising halls 6, 7, 8, 19 and 20. The main boulevard will also be extended. “We learnt lessons from five or six years ago when we moved into our new home,” he said. “We need to keep refreshing Glee.”
