BCF presidency handed over to David Beckford

In May 2018, the British Coatings Federation (BCF) held its Annual Conference and Gala Dinner in Oxford. During the event, outgoing BCF President Vincent O’Sullivan, of PPG Architectural Coatings handed over presidency of the BCF to David Beckford, of Pronto Industrial Paints.

The afternoon focussed on cybersecurity and how to protect your business online, and a review of the last 12 months from BCF completed the programme. BCF’s Chief executive, Tom Bowtell commented: “I’ve really enjoyed working with Vincent O’Sullivan as President – he’s challenged myself and the team to take things to the next level, and I look forward to working with David Beckford as we continue working on Brexit and other challenges, to support the future prosperity of the UK coatings industry.”


Decco appoints new COO


Home improvement and garden wholesaler, Decco has appointed Andrew Ballantine as its chief operating officer, following the departure of Charlie Lacey to take up a position as managing director of electrical distributor, the Stearn Electric Company Limited.


Mr Ballantine joined Decco in 1998 and was appointed profit centre manager for


Sheffield in 1999 before taking up his current role of profit centre manager for Leeds in 2003. With his 20 years’ service, he brings with him a wealth of knowledge of the industry. Commenting on his appointment, which is effective from June 1, Mr Ballantine said: “I’m delighted to be leading the team at Decco in these exciting times. Decco remains committed to offering a great service to our customers and to offering our suppliers the best route to market for their products.” Both Decco and Stearn are among eight subsidiary businesses belonging to Newbury Investments (UK) Ltd.


HTA introduces new board members


The Horticultural Trades Association (HTA) has


announced the


appointment of Matthew Bent, the managing director from Bents Garden & Home near Warrington, to the HTA Board as a non- executive director.


Matthew Bent said: “I am delighted and proud to have been selected for this post. The HTA has a strong and meaningful purpose in the garden industry and I am looking forward to working with the board and members to help provide additional support and advice from a retailer’s perspective.”
