AND FINALLY
Builders merchant continues air ambulance support
After raising £6,000 for Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust (CAAT) and Devon Air Ambulance over the past 12 months, RGB Building Supplies is delighted to continue its support of the charities for a further year.
The money was raised through charity breakfast mornings held in RGB’s branches, the builders merchant’s annual golf day, and staff members taking on individual challenges. The company also supported the charities’ shops by holding a Christmas stock appeal. This invited the community to drop off items to their local RGB branch which could go on to be sold in Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust and Devon Air Ambulance stores. Stephanie Bray, Corporate
Fundraising Officer at Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust, said: “It has been wonderful to partner with RGB Building Supplies over the last 12 months. The company has shown real dedication and a remarkable team spirit while raising donations. Their generous support has helped to keep the
SIG Roofing celebrates ‘Homes for the Homeless’ completion
SIG Roofing is supporting a new community enterprise scheme to create sustainable housing for the homeless community in Cambridgeshire.
The initiative was introduced as part of a new ‘Home First’ project, involving Allia Future Business Centre, Jimmy’s night shelter, the parish of Holy Cross Cambridge and New Meaning – a not-for-profit social enterprise which developed the structures. New Meaning has delivered a total of six modular homes to the county, where they will be available to rent for people who are currently or have previously been homeless.
The homes were officially unveiled on Friday, 12th June, with the first residents expected to move in later this summer. SIG Roofing supported the project by providing heavily discounted roofing materials from its nearby branch. Karen Lilley, SIG Roofing St Ives’ branch manager, said: “It’s a real privilege to be able

to supply roofing materials to such a fantastic development. Homelessness is a sadly growing issue across the UK, so the work carried out by New Meaning can make a real positive difference to a person’s life.
“As our products were being applied to modular homes, we recommended the use of FIX-R EPDM, as it delivers flexibility, weather resistance and is highly sustainable.
“The hope is that the
development will remain in place for a significant amount of time, making positive change to as many lives as possible.”
Selco Builders Warehouse is offering charities and community groups from anywhere in the UK the chance to benefit from its six -month Selco Stars campaign. Each month, two good causes will receive £500 worth of building materials to improve their facility or assist with a project, with the 12 finalists then going into a public vote for the chance to win £5,000 cash in early 2021. The organisation which finishes second in the public vote will receive £1,250 to mark Selco’s 125th anniversary this year. The scheme is open to any charity or group which provides a benefit to its local community and entry can be made by explaining in no more than 100 words how they would use the building materials or money.
Entries can be made by filling in a form on the Selco website
www.selcobw.com/stars Carine Jessamine, Selco marketing director, said: “The last few months has been an
unprecedented period and has had a detrimental effect on virtually all areas of society. “Charities and community groups are amongst those most heavily affected and we want to play a small part in helping them get back on their feet. “We have always fully
committed to reinvesting in local communities across the UK and it now feels more important than ever to do that.
“So many organisations which do sterling work in their community struggle to make building projects or renovations happen due to a lack of funding, so the chance to win materials will offer a huge helping hand. “On top of that, there is a £5,000 jackpot at the end of the scheme which is often enough money to keep some charities or community groups going for a number of years.”
