s the pandemic fallout continues to consume many aspects of HVAC operations, the conversation has moved
on to how we will safely open up commercial buildings and how employers can protect employees as they begin to return to work. Many of the issues are covered in the news and features in this issue including:
• the important role humidity and ventilation will play in stopping the circulation of viruses; • the importance of flushing systems to eliminate potentially harmful legionella from systems which have been dormant; • a call to be alert to workers suffering potentially damaging mental health issues; • how the industry can boost the economy; • and better ways of working including
embracing prefabr icating heating equipment t o safely catch up with all the projects put on hold during the lockdown.
Our features in this issue include heating systems; air conditioning; chillers, listed buildings and our HVRd supplement.

Cutting edge heat & v WHY CHOOSE A MAGNETIC DRIVE PUMP?
t & v M S
agnetic drive pumps are considered to be a suitable pump if the application in question requires the complete containment of the
process fluid being pumped.
For a magnetic drive pump, instead of having a shaft that passes through the body of the pump, which requires a dynamic seal, the pump has one assembly of magnets attached to the shaft of the motor and a second attached to the impeller inside the pump body. When the motor rotates, the magnetic field generated between the two magnets means that the impeller turns in the pump body. The
he shaft vent
liquid to be pumped is therefore contained within the hermetically sealed pump housing without the risk of any leaks from the shaft seal. Advantages of magnet drive pumps:
• Very low risk of fluid emissions from the pump • Low maintenance seal-less design • No pump to motor alignment problems • Quick wet end and pump head service replacement
Cambridgeshire-based March May
specialises in the design of seal-less magnetic drive pumps which it supplies to varied sectors in processes and equipment such as chillers, cooling, energy, heat and water treatment.

he deadline for the in to the HVR Awards – June 26 – is fast approaching and it’s a good time to take the opportunity to get an entry in.
This year the HVR Awards has introduced a couple of new categories including the Collaboration of the Year recognising examples of collaborative work that has delivered
outstanding results on an HVAC project; the Domestic Product of the Year which will reward the most innovative new
products available for domestic properties – open to both heating and ventilation products; and our special new award – the Net Zero Hero which is for any HVAC company that has made the most significant strides to introduce low carbon technology, or a product using such technology, to help the UK meet it’s net-zero 2050 carbon emissions target. There are plenty of other categories to enter too. Just visit
