Contractors’, Installers’ & Consultants’ Handbook 2021 HEATING & VENTILATING REVIEW AUK Distribution Ltd

Darryl Smith, managing director of AUK Distribution, outlines how changing customer requirements are playing a key role in deciding the direction of the business.

S

ome of the most important decisions we make as a company relate to the manufacturers we choose to work with. Simply because a product is deemed efficient is no longer enough; it also needs to meet targets for reducing environmental impact, refrigerant concentration levels and flammability restrictions for specific building applications. When AUK was established in 2009 it was as a dedicated distributor of Airwell Group equipment. We have since evolved in line with changing customer demands and now also offer cutting-edge solutions from LG, Fujitsu, Clint, Montair and Systemair Air Conditioning. We also have an exciting joint venture with Sunderland-based renewables specialist SECON, enabling us to supply a wide range of complementary products such as air-to-water heat pumps from a number of quality brands, along with a range of ancillary stock items. We work with these brands because they align with AUK’s determination to provide customers with the best possible solutions and the ability to choose multiple configurations of a single product, coupled with the desire to reduce our environmental impact. AUK is now able to offer a solution for almost all air conditioning applications; from simple 2 kW plug-in portable units to 2 MW and above central chiller plants. We supply split and multi split systems, VRF, heat recovery ventilation, air-to-water heat pumps, air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, condensing units, packaged rooftop units, close control systems and fan coil units. We have worked hard to develop long-standing

relationships with many of our suppliers and customers. Our staff have extensive knowledge and experience, supporting our products with pre- and post-sales support including design, specification, commissioning and technical assistance. As a trade only distributor and a long-standing member of

REFCOM, we only sell our products to F-Gas registered HVAC professionals.

Environment and efficiency LG continues to expand its line-up using R32 refrigerant, with an industry-first mini VRF added to an outstanding range of air-to-water heat pumps. LG’s hydro kits are capable of producing 80°C hot water and the energy savings can be maximised by connecting to a Multi V Heat Recovery system. LG’s stylish wall-mounted Artcool units, meanwhile, are amongst the most aesthetically pleasing available. Fujitsu’s portfolio features split and multi-split systems,

VRF, air handling units and associated DX solutions. As a business committed to continuous improvement, Fujitsu picked up three awards at the National ACR & HP Awards in 2020, claiming ACR Product of the Year for the J-series 50 kW mini VRF, Ancillary Product for its engineer service tool, and ACR Project for its work on the Hoover Building. In 2021 Fujitsu also achieved recognition for Air Conditioning Project of the Year for its work with Fujitsu services by ACR News. Chillers from Clint range from 6 kW to 2 MW, including

Systemair utilises the natural refrigerant propane (R290) and is optimised for partial load operation. It has two compressors fitted in tandem across the range and offers a Night Mode for further energy savings and reduced noise levels. Systemair’s SYSLOOP EVO is a packaged water-cooled ducted system, using low-GWP R513A refrigerant and featuring a low energy consumption EC fan, with cooling capacities from 1.7-2.9 kW and heating capacities from 2-3.8 kW. Close control systems from Montair, with DX and chilled

water options, offer precision air conditioning for high technology applications such as data centres, telecommunication plants and server rooms.
