To achieve sustainability targets, Adveco expects healthcare facilities will look for hot water to be generated via multiple localised systems that each provide hot water to wash hand basins and showers for a dedicated area. This will see systems arranged on a ward-by-ward basis, but appliances may also supply hot water to local shared spaces where appropriate. Such systems will demand hot water be stored and distributed at a minimum temperature of 60°C. Working fl ows could be required up to 75°C with minimum return temperatures not below 50°C. To achieve Net Zero and meet NHS mandates for DHW, a typical sustainable application would see hot water generated via a pair of parallel-arranged hot water cylinders to ensure redundancy. These would be sized to provide 60% of the hot water demand for the area served based on a peak 15-minute duration loading. The heat into the cylinder would come from a combination of solar thermal collectors and an air source heat pump working in conjunction to guarantee the preheat temperature.

RINNAI
Rinnai’s N Series range of condensing continuous fl ow water heaters have been passed as fully certifi ed to the new UKCA standard, the successor to the CE mark.
The UK government recently passed legislation to parliament ensuring that the CE mark was still recognised until the 31st of December 2024, eff ectively delaying the transition to the UKCA marking. Irrespective all Rinnai appliances within the water heater category will come with dual marking ensuring that all hydrogen blend ready and bio-LPG ready water heaters are ready for UKCA. UK Conformity Assessed (UKCA) marking is a certifi cation mark that indicates conformity with the applicable requirements for products sold within Great Britain. This news follows news from Rinnai that, after an extensive testing and verifi cation process, its N Series product range is ‘Hydrogen BLEND 20% ready’ for the proposed initial supply of natural gas and hydrogen blends fed through the existing gas infrastructure.

Hamworthy Heating has released a new Tyneham Heat Pump brochure, which highlights its latest monobloc air source heat pump off ering, developed to meet the demand for energy-effi cient heating products. One of the lightest commercial heat pumps on the market, the range features a coeffi cient (COP) rating of up to 4.85 to provide effi cient, low- carbon heating. Featuring seven models in the range with six nominal outputs of between 14 to 70kW, the Tyneham can be cascaded to achieve higher outputs in larger installations. Incorporating an inverter controller compressor to accurately match the heat demand, Tyneham heat pumps also use R32 refrigerant to deliver increased effi ciencies with a lower Global Warming Potential (GWP).

In the drive towards reduced Net Zero, Gilberts Blackpool claims its new MFS-HR surpasses performance of anything comparable on the market for commercial and public sector applications.
The combined hybrid unit can achieve up to 75% heat recovery. The heat recovery performance means when employed as part of a sustainable strategy including photovoltaic arrays, MFS-HR could achieve energy negative status. As with the original MFS and other alternative hybrid ventilation systems, MFS-HR is a stand-alone unit installed through the façade to ventilate, cool and warm the interior. Initial tests indicate each MFS-HR will provide up to 4kw heating and 2kw cooling capacity whilst still delivering an airfl ow rate of up to 470l/s. It could cost as little as £10/annum/zone to operate.
