Up to date on heat pumps

T

he future of heat pumps in the UK seems certain as one of the most important technologies identified in

the decarbonisation of heating process. With the government target to reach Net

Zero carbon emissions by 2050, coupled with several incentives and schemes to encourage their adoption, there has been an increase in interest in recent years. The energy efficient credentials of heat pumps are well known but they also have other advantages as they are widely considered to be a versatile, long-lasting, low maintenance, quiet and safe alternative to traditional heating systems. That said there are some challenges

too. Some of these include high upfront costs, expensive running costs, in some cases space requirements and a shortage of trained installers. Overall however, government support, and constantly improving technology, are expected to mitigate many of the challenges. In the meantime, it’s important to know what heat pump manufacturers have to offer and our Heat Pump Supplement this month (PG19) is a perfect place to start. Two of the most innovative heat pump

products will be rewarded at this year’s HVR Awards – now open for entries. Go to www.hvrawards.com for all the details.

ENTRIES ARE OPEN FOR HVR AWARDS 2023

T

he HVR Awards – the prestigious scheme for the recognition of excellence from across the heating and ventilating sector ¬– is now open

for entries for 2023. As usual the industry event will take place in October when a new group of winners will be inducted into the ‘Hall of Flame’ at the hotly- anticipated awards ceremony. This year, we will be back at the Chelsea Harbour Hotel in London on October 5, so make sure you hold that date. Organised by Heating & Ventilating Review publisher, Datateam Business Media, the HVR Awards has been rewarding excellence in the HVAC sector for over a decade. And now, we’re back with 17 trophies up for grabs, among them six new categories added this year. Once again the awards will include a mixture of

categories that will be judged by an expert industry panel, and those that will be determined by an industry vote. Go to www.hvrawards.com/categories

WHAT’S NEW THIS YEAR... Judged Awards

• Owing to the importance heat pumps will play in helping the government to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to Net Zero by 2050, we would like to encourage heat pump manufacturers and will

therefore present two Heat Pump Product of the Year awards for both a domestic and a commercial product. • The growing importance of Indoor Air Quality and its role in contributing to the health and wellbeing of occupants in a building can’t be denied. With that in mind, the HVR Awards will present an Indoor Air Quality Initiative Award for the first time. Core product categories will be returning this year including the Commercial/industrial awards for Air Conditioning, Heating, Ventilation and Ancillary. Also back are many of the most popular categories from last year such as the Collaboration of the Year and the Net Zero Hero focusing on the introduction of low carbon technology in commercial settings.

Industry Vote Awards The HVR Awards 2023 is also introducing three special new awards which will be open to an industry vote. • The Rising Star Award will be presented to a young professional, or a candidate who is new to the industry. The nominee will have had a game- changing impact on their employer’s business and will have established him or herself as an important team member. • The HVAC Woman of the Year will go to a woman who has made an exceptional contribution to her employer’s business and stands out for her hard work and dedication. • The Training Provider of the Year is a key award that will go to an HVAC company that has launched a training scheme to help professionals gain expertise in low carbon heating technologies. Entries are now open, so don’t waste time, go to www.hvrawards.com/enter
