T
he latest AVA Census & Market Report, which draws on data from more than 15,000 machines, is due for release later this month, once again, providing a vital resource for Operators planning sustainable growth, both in this year and beyond. Access to the full Census & Market Report 2025 is a core
benefit of AVA membership, arming operators, suppliers and service providers with the critical information and insight needed to plan for sustainable success. The report, once again, compiled by Martin Colston on
behalf of the AVA, provides more than just data; it offers a clear line of sight into how our sector is adapting and evolving in real time. Built on robust research, industry insight and direct member input, it is designed to help make confident decisions in an increasingly complex operating environment. As always, it remains one of the most valuable benefits of AVA membership – supporting both strategic thinking and day-to-day performance. Carried out since 1983, the report has mapped huge changes in the industry, in consumer preferences, reflecting new legislation and changes in business and society as well as economic cycles. Hybrid working continues to have an impact on traditional business and industry locations, while growth is accelerating in retail, hospitality and emerging formats such as micro markets and smart fridges. This diversification is opening new opportunities for Operators willing to adapt and innovate. The regulatory landscape remains a critical and evolving
factor. As we progressed through 2025, there were several challenges to business to be addressed, which include, but are not limited to the proposed ban on high caffeine energy drinks o under 16-year olds, Defra’s Extended Producer Responsibility Reforms, and work by the Food Standards Agency and Public Health Scotland on nutritional profiling for products sold through vending and automated retail. The AVA continues to represent our members’ interests at the highest levels, working closely with government and stakeholders to ensure the industry’s voice is heard and its future supported. AVA Members will be able to view and download the census
via the AVA Website in May. If you are not an AVA Member but wish to view the census, you can purchase a copy from the AVA. Simply send an email to
