PAYMENT SYSTEMS
readers directly support the common vending industry MDB protocol so in most cases, the installation will be plug and play. The card reader manufacturer will pre-configure the device to connect to a payment gateway that handles the transaction authorisation with the bank of your choice. You can negotiate rates directly with the bank and you’ll own the hardware outright.
Business development manager at vmC, laura Barwell Vending has really stepped up and helped to bridge the gap of closed catering and hospitality services during the pandemic, showing operators that it has the potential to play a bigger role in their ongoing operations. Operators now need to maximise on that opportunity by adapting their offering and utilising contactless to help them grow. We’ve seen a real boom in demand for our Vendotek contactless
payment readers over the last 12 months, as vending operators have really seen the value to be gained from adding this payment option to their machines. Once their sales increase, the next step is to think more broadly about how to incentivise and maintain that revenue by adding options like loyalty and promotions, which can be achieved with the addition of our Flex cashless solution. Contactless payment does more than just speed up the transaction, it
requires less staff intervention, it’s clean and safe, and with the power of Flex in the background it can do so much more. Going forward consumers will still expect to be able to make a tap-and-go transaction wherever they go, but the savvy vending operators will be looking for ways to ensure they come back again and again, and we can help with that.
Business development manager, self serviCe payments at worldline, darren anderson, The vending industry has been aware of the potential of cashless for some time. What the pandemic did was accelerate this trend towards contactless, touchless and alternative payment methods (APMs) as consumers initially tried to avoid less hygienic payment methods. The result of this is that 50% of customers think that cash will disappear
completely at some point in the future. A NAMA & Michigan State University study indicates a 37% increase in customer spending when paying by card, while an Oracle report suggests 86% of consumers say they are willing to pay more for a better customer experience. It is no surprise then that card-based payments, including mobile wallets and
in-app payments are on the rise and driving payments. What’s more, there are emerging technologies and approaches which have seen ‘smart fridges’, micromarkets and innovative vending approaches increasing across Europe. Therefore, vending and the touchless market can not only cater to
consumers’ evolving needs, but also provide the flexibility and reliability that consumers are relying on as the world around them is changing.

This year, we expect to see an even greater shift towards a cashless
society, with operators rapidly adapting and scaling new operational practices. These include accepting electronic payment, updating new contactless limits, introducing additional payments means abd refunding the user. This will make the buying experience quicker and more convenient .
managing direCtor of sB software, simon BlaCk There’s an ever-growing selection of good, robust payment systems out there nowadays. And they just keep on getting better, and cheaper too. Meanwhile, the public demands cashless, especially amidst the ongoing
pandemic, and that’s not going to change once COVID-19 goes away. That’s good news for operators, because vending customers spend more
using a payment system than with cash. While our Vendmanager solution has integrated seamlessly with
cashless/telemetry providers such as Nayax and CPI for 10 years (that’s over 500 weeks now) we know that there is more to do. In our vending management system, integration means that the data is
seamlessly transferred into Vendmanager against the relevant machine every time the telemetry unit polls. Depending on your cashless provider, we have been able to transfer that data even quicker. Typically, nowadays, as payments happen in real-time at the vending machine, our vending management system will receive the transaction detail within a maximum of five minutes. Both methods of data (DEX Audits and Transaction level data) offer
multiple opportunities including up-to-date reports of cash vs cashless against each machine in real-time, calculating when machines truly merit attendance using Visit on Demand, and calculating the required stock for Single Walk and Pre-Packing.
