for traineeship programmes JTL, a leading national training provider for electrical and heating and plumbing apprenticeships, has partnered with London South East Colleges (LSEC) to provide a programme of Traineeships in electrical and plumbing.
T
he Traineeship programme gives young people aged 16-24 an opportunity to develop skills and
confidence in order to take their first steps into their chosen career. The six-week programme gives trainees an insight into the industry, as well as aiding them with the skills and experierence they need to succeed in the workplace. As part of the programme, JTL will support learners to secure a four-week industry work placement, which will provide learners on the job experience. The programme is designed to support
young people with basic maths and English knowledge, if required, as well as to enhance their employability skills including CV writing, interview techniques, timekeeping and teamwork. Learners will also acquire a CSCS card plus Electrotechnical Certification Scheme (ECS Card). Rob Storer, JTL’s London regional business
manager, said: “We are thrilled to be forming a new partnership with London South East Colleges to deliver Electrical and Plumbing Traineeships. This development builds upon the existing strong links we have with LSEC regarding our partnership work with apprenticeships. skills and health & safety knowledge which will help them progress onto an apprenticeship. “Combining the strengths of both organisations and sharing resources to deliver high quality Traineeship programmes will be a real benefit to young people who have not yet started on an apprenticeship programme and want to take the first steps into their professional career. This is an exciting partnership which will have a positive impact on the sector and young people’s lives.”

the country to hand out more than 650 of the kits to 3rd Stage apprentices and adult trainees, observing physical distancing at all times. Worth £30 each, the kits save lives by ensuring that electricity is turned off – and stays off – until work is completed. This fundamental process, known as safe isolation, is essential in helping to prevent serious or fatal electric shocks. Among the recipients were trainees at Ayshire College, Ayr Campus, Dundee & Angus College and Perth College UHI, with other apprentices presented with their kits at all 21 SECTT Approved Centres. Anne Galbraith, CEO of SECTT, said: “Adopting

as an organisation we are proud to do everything we can to support this.” Lesley Rudd, chief executive of ESF, added: “It’s vital that safe working procedures are undertaken across the industry, but to be properly effective they need to be established at the start of an electrician’s career. These free kits don’t just provide essential safety equipment that will make safe isolation an ingrained habit, they could also make the difference between life or death.” Fiona Harper, The Secretary of the SJIB, said:

“This annual handout demonstrates the industry’s ongoing commitment to safety as well as skills. Ensuring that the next generation of electricians are educated in safe isolation is essential, and sits alongside other measures to ensure we have a properly trained and qualified workforce, such as the current consultation to introduce regulation of electricians as a profession.”
