Cable Management

Halogen (OH) and the Turbo effect. LSFOH, Low Smoke & Fume Zero Halogen conduits are not only characterised by the fire- retardant performance but also by the halogen-free properties, thus offering low corrosive and toxic emissions. During a fire, LSFOH conduits will emit less smoke and acid gases, 90% less smoke and zero halogens which may affect human health and damage expensive communications equipment. LSF0H conduits offer the same mechanical resistance against compression and impact forces as steel systems. The Turbo effect is an innovative and patented conduit design that simplifies and enhances the installation process. Inserting cables becomes faster and less strenuous without compromising the characteristics of standard conduits. The sectional corrugation reduces the friction

between cable and conduit and helps installers to save time and cost.

The Turbo design is a patented feature of installation conduits and has become favoured

by installers. Now it is also available for Univolt’s LSF0H series and helps users to save time, effort and money. Compared with conventional conduits the Turbo products lead to lower frictional forces, hence shorter installation times for cabling work.

David added: “Although HFT has spent many years under development, the range is undoubtedly seeing its peak in interest in more recent years and months. The catastrophic events at Grenfell have undoubtedly opened up our eyes to the tragedy that could potentially unfold due to the use of unsafe materials and applications, leading many to rethink their wider approach.

“We believe that the future of cable containment lies within the HFT range as considered choice gathers pace and together, we create safer spaces to work, live and socialise in. “This is an incredibly exciting development for Univolt that will naturally set us apart. We look forward now to pushing LSFOH out across the industry and supporting all customers in making the right specification, realising the many benefits that this range has to offer.”

EIC Update T

om had been told that half of his heart was working at only 7%. He had a heart operation in August 2018 and, at 19, was on medication to slow his heart for it to repair itself. Due to side effects that could cause blindness, it wasn’t a long-term solution, and another operation was a source of great anxiety to him.

Tom was struggling to pay his bills and had substantial debts due to being threatened with losing his job if he didn’t purchase a car. His mum was fighting a battle

Healthy heart: Support from the EIC

with cancer, and he was facing imminent unemployment once his apprenticeship ended. He felt unable to confide in his family and was bursting into tears at work. It was very important for Tom to manage his stress without turning to unhealthy habits that would detrimentally impact his heart, so he contacted the EIC and engaged in telephone counselling. This gave him a place to offload his concerns without judgement and the EIC sent him monies to cover one month of bills once all other options had been exhausted.

Once his apprenticeship ended, Tom found himself a job with higher pay. The EIC funded his petrol and parking costs until he received his first payment, reducing financial pressure until his new salary provided the security he needed. The help that Tom accessed is due to the support of the EIC and the powerLottery. It means he got the support he needed to relieve the financial burdens in his life in order to be able to focus on his health. Without powerLottery, the EIC would not be able to offer support to people like Tom.

That’s why we need you to become a powerLottery player to help EIC to continue supporting our industry members.
