OMRON reveals ultra-compact power relay for high-voltage battery safety

O S

MRON Electronic Components Europe has introduced the G9EJH-1-E ultra-compact DC power relay, delivering a space- saving solution for inrush protection in battery-charging systems up to 800V. With dimensions of 31mm x 27mm, and 30mm high, the relay also meets the IEC 60664 insulation distance specification to satisfy stringent reliability and safety standards. With its high maximum voltage and industry-standard insulation distance, the G9EJH-1-E is well suited to use in battery energy-storage systems (ESS). The compact dimensions, as well as 12V coil-operating voltage, simplify integration in pre-charging, auxiliary power, and main charging systems in

hybrid and electric vehicles (EV/PHEV). Also, its 800V capability meets the needs of the automotive market as typical vehicle battery voltages continue to rise, targeting greater efficiency and faster charging. With SPST (single-pole single-throw) normally open contacts, the relay operates in series with a current-limiting resistor for inrush protection. Capable of carrying a sustained current of 15A, and handling inrush current up to 30A, the G9EJH-1-E operates and releases within 30ms to provide fast-acting protection. The contact resistance is less than 100mΩ, ensuring minimal power loss when turned on. On the other hand, the insulation resistance of 1000MΩ and dielectric strength of 2500V between the coil and contacts ensures robust

performance in harsh conditions. Housed in a

6-pin PCB-mount package, the G9EJH- 1-E is suitable for automated or hand soldering and ensures flexibility for assemblers while simplifying

field repairs. With mechanical lifetime rated for over 200,000 operations, and specified for operating temperature from -40°C to 85°C, the G9EJH-1-E is designed to ensure impressive reliability in automotive and industrial environments. The relays are ready

now for use in on-board chargers (OBC), service equipment (EVSE), and grid-connected energy-storage (BESS) applications.

Filtronic secures contract with Airbus for constellation satellites

pecialist in high-performance mmWave technologies for space, Filtronic has been awarded a new contract to supply filter and diplexer assemblies to Airbus Defence and Space, supporting the production of additional satellites for Eutelsat OneWeb. The contract will see Filtronic deliver flight sets in 2026, as part of efforts to expand the OneWeb low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite constellation. Built by Airbus in Toulouse, these satellites will contribute to Eutelsat OneWeb’s mission of delivering global broadband connectivity. Eutelsat OneWeb, formed in 2023 through the merger of Eutelsat Communications and OneWeb, is described as the world’s first

fully integrated satellite operator combining geostationary orbit (GEO) and LEO satellite technologies.

This next phase of satellite production builds on the legacy of the Airbus-OneWeb collaboration, which has already delivered more than 600 satellites to orbit as part of the OneWeb constellation.

Filtronic’s role in this programme involves the design, development and qualification of the filter and diplexer assemblies, which will be integrated into the payloads of the new satellites. The new assemblies are engineered to meet the rigorous requirements of the space environment, ensuring performance and

reliability for a wide range of communication applications.

“This project aligns with our strategy to expand capabilities in the space sector, and highlights our considerable sector credentials.” said Nat Edington, chief executive officer at Filtronic. “Filtronic is already a technology leader in ground-based satellite communications systems, and this contract reflects our expanding reach into satellite payload systems.”

Drawing on its experience in high- volume precision manufacturing, Filtronic will produce the assemblies in-house at its advanced facilities in the North East of England, maintaining the high standards

required for space applications. The company will also oversee the qualification process to ensure compliance with space environment specifications.
