nveiled at this year’s EMPACK in February, LG Motion’s StackSmart is described as being a

transformative leap forward for logistics and manufacturing, with a typical ROI of less than a year, and the advantage of being installed and ready to use in just one day.

Christian Lyth says that StackSmart takes the complexity out of the application, and is priced to make automation accessible to a larger number of manufacturers.

StackSmart can handle a range of workpieces and production runs, and is equipped with collaborative robots from Techman, and end-of-arm tooling and D:PLOY palletising software from OnRobot.

Capable of handling a range of payloads and pallet heights, StackSmart adapts to various palletising requirements, so is able to maintain steady and accurate production. As Lyth mentioned, the system is a  the gap in logistics applications, giving warehouses a tool to improve operational    scale to meet current and future needs as businesses grow. Lyth says OnRobot’s D:PLOY is

integral to the simplicity of the system. D:PLOY is an automated platform for building, running, monitoring, and re-deploying collaborative palletising applications. It automates the process of getting a robotic application up and running. According to Lyth, operators simply follow a set-up guide and the software builds the application. Based on the box and pallet dimensions, D:PLOY will recommend the  sequence, or it can be customised by the user. This means the system can be set up or adjusted by an operator with little to no   point into robotic automation, and helps overcome the labour shortage and skills gap challenges that the manufacturing industry faces. Lyth says these factors will make the system particularly attractive to Small to Medium size Enterprises (SMEs).

Delivering detailed data Beyond making set-up more user-friendly, D:PLOY also delivers detailed data on system performance, throughput and downtime. These insights give users immediate, real-time visibility into productivity, so prompt adjustments can be made to optimise the palletising process. OEE reports can be generated to evaluate 

When it comes to safety, StackSmart carries out the heavy lifting, repetitive

tasks, and awkward postures that often lead to musculoskeletal injuries in manual palletising. Through real-time monitoring of load and force distribution, the system ensures all tasks are performed safely within established limits, reducing injury risks and promoting workforce well-being. Visual indicators and alarms enable operators to swiftly address potential hazards, creating a safer, more secure working environment for everyone.

The StackSmart features a multilingual touch screen interface, allowing every operator to navigate the system in their preferred language.  of-arm tooling, utilising OnRobot’s range of grippers, with options including VGP20 vacuum gripper, VGC10 vacuum gripper, VG10 vacuum gripper, and the 2FGP20 palletiser gripper.
