Developing linear bearings for six generations

Are shorter assembly times, lower operating costs and a longer operating life decisive arguments for you? There is no need to look any further than Schaeffler’s new development

S

ince the 1980s, Schaeffl er has been setting the benchmark for the highest rigidity, load-carrying capacity, precision and reliability

with its RUE linear recirculating roller bearing and guideway assemblies. Now, with the sixth generation of recirculating roller guidance systems, the RUE-F, they demonstrate just how far this technology has come. Schaeffl er’s complete linear off ering is one of the most comprehensive in the world, providing machine builders and design engineers with the widest linear product range currently available from a single source. The Schaeffl er range includes shaft, track roller and monorail guidance systems; six-, four- and two-row ball guidance systems; linear recirculating ball-bearing units; hydrostatic guides; fl at cage guidance systems; linear roller bearings; miniature guidance systems; linear actuators and tables; ball and planetary roller screws; mechatronics and direct-drive technology, including linear motors; complete multi-axis handling and gantry robot systems; and a range of linear accessories such as fasteners and connectors.

Latest linear guide developments The RUE-F has a completely new design of rolling element recirculation, resulting in very smooth running characteristics with signifi cantly reduced displacement forces. With a focus on operating costs and environmental protection, lubricant consumption has also been reduced up to 50% by optimising lubrication channels, enhancing fl ow and effi ciently transferring lubricant toward the critical point.

With new standard accessories, including a mounting rail and closing plug, assembly is now faster and more convenient. The RUE-F is also available with a newly-developed covering strip (ADE) which simplifi es installation to within one tenth of the installation time previously required.

Optimum lubrication for linear guides

The KUVE series of four-row linear recirculating ball bearing and guideway assemblies from Schaeffl er is suitable for a wide range of industrial applications where high load carrying capacity and rigidity are required to move heavy loads with high running and positional accuracy, as well as low friction. The guidance systems are preloaded and suitable for long, unlimited strokes. Depending on operating conditions, accelerations up to 150m/s2

and speeds up to 360m/min are

achievable. A requirements- and load-based lubricant supply is available for the KUVE series, which extends machine operating times and reduces maintenance costs. The Schaeffl er DuraSense system comprises a guide carriage with sensors, as well as a pre-processing unit that allows up to seven sensors to be connected for monitoring the lubrication conditions of the guide carriage. During a defi ned reference run, the lubrication conditions for each guide carriage are continuously recorded from the emitted vibration energy. These conditions are checked against a limit value known as the “lubrication indicator”, which when exceeded, relubrication takes place. Both insuffi cient lubrication and

over-greasing are reliably prevented, resulting in lubricant savings of up to 30% achieved at optimum load and a reduced number of contamination-induced failures. DuraSense can be used with the Schaeffl er range of monorail guideway assemblies, including KUVE four- row linear recirculating ball bearing and guideway assemblies, RUE linear recirculating roller bearing and guideway assemblies, and KUSE six-row linear recirculating ball bearing and guideway assemblies.

Electromechanical linear actuators Schaeffl er has also introduced a range of electromechanical linear actuators. With applications ranging from production machinery, drive technology and industrial automation, to logistics, raw materials and mobile machinery, the P.ACT series’ linear actuators off er high power density and signifi cantly improved energy effi ciency compared to hydraulic and pneumatic systems. P.ACT linear actuators are protected by a rigid, robust, hexagonal- shaped, aluminium housing (up to class IP65S). They can be fl exibly confi gured via a modular design platform, which enables them to be individually optimised for specifi c applications together with other Schaeffl er components. Integrated T-slots along the entire length of the actuator enable fl exible fi xing options for the actuator and its accessories.
