OIL & GAS/RENEWABLES

Three Gorges Corporation; construction started in 2014. The first batch of units began operation in June 2021 and all units will be put into operation in June 2022.

‘Modern energy for all’ The station at Baihetan has an installed capacity of 16 million KW. As a renewable energy source, Baihetan Dam hydropower plant plays an important role in powering the world in a sustainable way. It meets the UN Sustainable Goal 7, to “ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.” Over 100 actuators from Rotork’s IQ3 range

have been installed to operate ball valves on the Baihetan site. They drive the water supply systems within the power station, as well as drainage systems, air compression systems and other auxiliary systems. Electric actuation was chosen partly due to easy access to existing power cabling, providing a low-cost energy source for the actuators.

ACTUATORS HELP CREATE CLEAN ENERGY

A huge hydro-electric power plant in China, creating clean and renewable energy, is being supported by Rotork actuators

WMS PROVIDES ACCURACY AND VISIBILITY

Valser Synergy has introduced Indigo WMS, developed by Indigo Software, into four of its’ business units: Valser Engineering & Services, VOSS Engineering, Valser Energy and Valser Flow Solutions. Headquartered in Malaysia, Valser Synergy is a “One-Stop-Solution- Centre” for the supply and service of valves, actuators and controls for exploration & production equipment in the oil & gas, energy, maritime, defence, port and petrochemical industries. Valser Synergy invested in IndigoWMS because the company needed a centralised,

real-time inventory system to gain control and visibility of its extensive asset base, plus improve business management across the company’s expanding business interests as a whole. The company’s inventory is complex and high value, spanning multiple categories including finished goods, sub-assembly, assets, service parts and consumables. Valser Synergy commissioned a detailed evaluation to identify a suitable WMS solution to be implemented at five of its warehouses located

in Peninsula and East Malaysia. This would replace their current manual system based on Excel spreadsheets and paper records. The decision to select Indigo Software was based on Indigo’s experience in providing WMS solutions, the company’s well established support operations in the Asia Pacific region, and the opportunity for Valser Synergy to learn from the real-world experiences of Indigo Software’s global team of supply chain consultants. Indigo WMS will provide Valser Synergy with a centralised real-time warehouse management solution delivering accuracy, visibility and

efficiency benefits for its warehousing operations. It means the company’s warehouses will always have an up-to-date stock balance together with a clear audit trail of all inventory movements. This will eliminate costly inventory management issues such as overstocking, item obsolescence, undocumented stockouts, lost or misplaced stock items due to inaccurate location recording and shrinkage due to wastage or pilfering. Indigo WMS will also be integrated with Valser Synergy’s ERP system for real-time inventory visibility across the organisation. “Indigo WMS provides a very good fit for Valser Synergy and brings a proven track record of managing the complex warehousing needs of

manufacturing companies like ours. Having real-time control will deliver immediate benefits and we are expecting a swift return on investment,” said Yusri Mohamad, Group COO, Valser Synergy.

Additionally, installation space was limited and there was no ability to have a central compressor on site, so electric actuation was the logical choice. IQ actuators are ideally suited for

operation on a site like Baihetan; they are reliable, robust and efficient, with data logs that can provide insight into performance. Continuous position tracking is available at all times, even without power.
