Here, ASiCL was used in the main spindle of the ‘Centateq’ CNC machining centres, with the high speed range now available opening up new possibilities for the machine specialist – the main spindle can be operated with maximum shaft performance in such a way that even the adhesive dispensing unit in the stationary range can be guided cleanly without an encoder at speeds of around 10rpm with high torque on the workpiece. In addition, the maximum

controlled operation of asynchronous motors (ASCL), meaning good shaft performance is now available from the lowest to the maximum speed range. As an example, high-speed spindle motors for processing machines without speed encoders will benefit from this. Even with changing loads – due to torque fluctuations or similar – the speed can be controlled continuously. This is an advantage for encoderless applications where different tools are used in the main spindle. According to the company, ASiCL is in demand wherever workpieces need to be machined – whether made of wood, metal or plastic. The solution has already been used by

woodworking machine manufacturer HOMAG.

speed of 24,000rpm can also be achieved. “In asynchronous motors, the speed range

above the slip speed is controlled with the proven ASCL method. Until now, however, the lower speed range down to the slip speed was critical and technically not easy to implement. With the new AsiCL function, KEB is now closing precisely this gap,” explained Robert Otto, application engineer at KEB Automation. The ASiCL mode of operation provides for a regulation of the slip speed. With changing loads, the speed is kept constant and the full torque of the motor can be utilised. As a supplement, ASiCL opens up new avenues

for machine builders and noticeably increases flexibility in production, the company states.

procedures for IP67 testing, which the manufacturer also offers for medium voltage motors from its own brand up to 11kV. Menzel builds IP67 motors with minimal tolerances, waterproof encapsulated cast-iron casings and terminal boxes. The motors, which are used worldwide,

mainly in pump stations, flood-prone areas, food and drink industries and maritime applications, can be fully immersed at standstill for a period of 24 hours without any ingress of water.

along with the IE5+ motor on which it is based, the encoder, speed feedback and brake are all safely accommodated in the housing. The compact DuoDrive concept is said to achieve a significantly higher energy efficiency than the already proven drive systems with IE5+ synchronous motor and bevel gear unit. At up to 92%, DuoDrive is said to currently offer the highest system efficiency on the market in this power class, and achieves very high efficiency in the partial load range. The constant motor torque over a wide speed range allows for consistent version reduction and lower operating costs. The first available DuoDrive size covers gear unit speed ratios of i = 3.24 to i = 16.2 and is designed for output torque ranges of up to 80Nm and speeds of up to 1,000rpm. In addition to the high system efficiency, the smooth, unventilated and compact design, and the quiet running with minimum noise emissions, are further important features of the new DuoDrive geared motor. Elimination of many wearing parts results in lower maintenance.
