PRODUCTS TECHNOLOGY FILE HIGH FREQUENCY CHIP EQUALIZERS
New from Smiths Interconnect is the CEX Series of High Frequency Surface Mount Chip Equalizers, optimised to offer precise compensation for unwanted gain variation over frequency in an RF signal chain. These
are designed to offer customers a configurable design approach to provide the right solution for a specific frequency range and slope, fitting a wide range of requirements up to 40 GHz with a maximum slope of 4dB. The CEX Series are a totally passive solution
with multiple slope and band options allowing RF designers to reach more precise compensation as the Series offers linear gain equalizers with a positive slope. Suitable for multiple markets and applications,
these are designed to offer: • Configurable design approach providing optimised solutions for gain variation over frequency.
• Multiple slope options (1-4 dB) and excellent slope linearity (±0.25 dB or better).
• Typical Voltage Standing Wave Ratio at 1.5:1 max and low insertion loss at 1 – 1.25 dB max.
• Frequency offering up to 40 GHz supporting a wide array of markets and applications.
• Proven thin and thick film process technology providing small size, light-weight and level of power in a cost-effective, easy-to-implement surface mount solution.
• Electrical and thermal performances tested through simulation analysis and real-life tests to ensure Series qualification.

HIGH PERFORMANCE QUARTZ CRYSTAL OSCILLATORS
Now available from Euroquartz are Statek’s new range of miniature high performance quartz crystal oscillators. Designed and manufactured for high temperature applications, the CXOLHT surface mount devices offer ultra-low power consumption, high shock resistance characteristics, and are capable of withstanding temperatures up to 200˚C. Housed in 3.2 x 1.5mm, hermetically
sealed, non-magnetic ceramic packages, these are available in frequencies from
SMART TYRE PRESSURE
MONITORING SOLUTION The MLX91805 smart tyre sensor from Melexis is designed to help OEMs prepare for the forthcoming extension of mandatory tyre-pressure monitoring to include commercial vehicles, and to enable future generations of smart tyres. Embedded within the tyre, the TMS integrates an 800g XZ-axis
accelerometer that senses up to 10,000 samples per second, plus a high-accuracy pressure sensor, temperature and voltage sensors. Integrating a low-power 16-bit microcontroller and 315/433
MHz RF transmitter that draws just 5mA at 5dBm output power, and with an extremely low 90nA sleep current, the MLX91805 can run from a tiny battery for the life of the tyre. In addition to built-in diagnostics and fault detection, a math coprocessor allows fast and energy-efficient Digital Signal Processing (DSP). The MLX91805 is suited to tyres for commercial vehicles,
including heavy duty, and passenger cars. Melexis

RECTANGULAR POWER CONNECTORS
An extensive range of Rectangular Power Connectors including 2, 3, 4, 6, 8 and 12 pole versions, intended for demanding cable-to- cable applications, has been introduced by Bulgin. With a high
current rating (13A), these have a robust construction that ensures continued reliability in harsh operational environments. Thanks to their silicone rubber seals, they fully conform to IP68 and IP69K standards, and compliance with EN60068-2-52 means they can be used in marine deployments. Their mouldings consist of polybutylene
terephthalate with polyamide glass fibre reinforcements embedded. Their contacts are made of copper alloy, with either nickel or gold plating specified. 14AGW to 20AWG diameter wires can be accommodated. Additional features include support
from 100 mating cycles and an operational temperature range of -40˚C to +120˚C. Wedge-locks are supplied for greater contact retention, resulting in the ability to withstand forces of 111N. An insulation resistance of over 1000MΩ (at 500VDC) prevents leakage current issues.

EXTENSION MODULES ENABLE SMART SAFETY OPERATIONS ON THE FACTORY FLOOR
At the heart of Smart Manufacturing are data-driven operations, where machines produce key information that is shared across the enterprise to maximise efficiency and productivity. This also applies to safety applications, where users can leverage unique actionable insight into diagnostics, machine condition monitoring and troubleshooting. Mitsubishi Electric’s new FX5-SF-MU4T5 main module and FX5-SF-8DIA input
expansion module facilitate the introduction of smart safety operations on the factory floor. When implementing these, businesses can increase safety system performance, drive control and user-centric support by simplifying configuration and set up while optimising connectivity and data transfer. These solutions enhance the capabilities of MELSEC iQ-F FX5U and FX5UC PLC CPUs for applications that require compliance with Category 4, PLe or SIL3 international safety standards. The FX5 safety extension modules are easy to set up and are quickly connected
to the PLC via a bus cable. This means that businesses can reduce their wiring and equipment footprint. The direct transfer of safety information to the main CPU is also enabled by the connection, which can then conduct advanced diagnostics. Thanks to built-in web server functions, the system data can be displayed on any
device via a web browser. Enhanced visualisation can be readily achieved with an HMI. A web browser based configuration guidance app
helps to confirm the resulting configuration and wiring. In addition, the tool produces an impression of the safety standards that the set-up meets. Finally, the FX5-SF-MU4T5 and FX5-SF-8DIA
modules, coupled with the web server functions, support operational integrity.
