Mission critical soldier communication systems

Konecranes helps SEW Eurodrive

hen SEW Eurodrive elected to build its new, purpose-designed UK head office, production and service facility located in Normanton, West Yorkshire, a prime operational objective was to install a crane and hoist infrastructure that would prove pivotal in delivering maximum use of available floor space without impeding operational performance.

W

SEW called on the expertise of world leading lifting equipment manufacturer, Konecranes,

to

adopt a design route that centred on an innovative configuration and a layout that utilised the building’s main steel structure to support both the gantries and interconnecting crane girders. By doing so, the need to incorporate upright supports and stanchions was negated, thereby ensuring SEW Eurodrive – a world leading manufacturer specialising in drive technology solutions - could capture as much open floor space as possible.

he ODU AMC® product portfolio was created to improve the capabilities of the next generation intelligent soldier systems that re quire significant weight and space reduction,

T such as: computer/PAN, helmet-

mounted camera, radio, headset, GPS,

battery-pack, wrist-worn

displays or rifle-mounted sys - tems.

Offering high performance

data trans mission, high reliability and easy handling, the range includes USB 3.0 at up to 5Gbit/s. Providing significantly reduced weight and in shell diameters as small as 10mm up to 18.5mm (40 contacts), the ODU AMC® also includes numerous high- density signal configurations and tailored versions for power. Shells are both keyed and colour-coded to ensure reliable and simple handling, with watertight protection to IP 68, 5000 mating cycles durability, a break-away option for maximum safety, rugged & non-reflective surfaces, salt-spray resistance, high-speed data transfer capability and temperature range from -51° C to +125° C

ODU also provides a full suite of complementary products and services, including various combinations of interface cable solutions,

rapid prototyping and product development, local

engineering support, as well as over-moulding and turn-key system solutions. The AMC® is only one of ODU's many problem-solving connectors - so, if you're faced with a connector problem, they may well have the answer.

TOUGH addition to SICK’s flagship safety light curtain family, the deTec4 Prime is an extra-

rugged, high-performance light curtain that is easy to install and use. It is also suitable for harsh environments and exceptionally wide machines. With the SICK deTec4 Prime, it is easier than ever to achieve hazardous and access point safety protection up to PLe/SIL3.

New 650°C It is ideal for a wide

variety of applications such as machine tool operation; automotive production; warehousing and logistics and FMCG goods handling and packaging. With integrated laser alignment for simple installation, the SICK deTec4 Prime provides full end- to-end protection with no blind zones and a wide scanning range up to 21m. It complements the highly successful deTec4 Core safety light curtain which has set new protection performance standards since its launch in 2013. With integral dip switches for simple in-situ

configuration, the deTec4 Prime is quick and easy to commission without the need for a computer. Cascading up to three deTec4 Prime safety light curtains minimises wiring complexity and reduces the number of safety inputs in the control cabinet. The coded light beam option prevents optical interference between devices in side-by-side applications.

“With the deTec4 Prime, SICK has produced yet another functional safety device optimised for maximum uptime through ease of connectivity and quick commissioning whilst meeting the most stringent international safety standards,” says Dr. Martin Kidman, SICK UK Safety Specialist. “Launching the deTec4 Prime enhances our portfolio of next generation light curtains, ready for use in the Industry 4.0 Smart Factory. Through the space saving, robust design of the SICK deTec4 Prime, machine integration is optimised in order to achieve higher operator productivity.”
