W
ith building safety and fire safety legislation firmly in the spotlight, there is no better time to highlight this crucial subject – one that all commercial building owners are keen to get to grips with. This month BSEE shines the spotlight on fire and safety and we have a number of features to help building owners cover all the bases. Since the Grenfell disaster, there is still some uncertainty about who is responsible for fire risk and to help out, the founder of the Fire Safety Regulations Group Paul Le Mere unpicks some misconceptions and explains who takes responsibility for what and at what point. (pg16) Meanwhile Carl Elkins of Sertus offers some insight into fire risk assessments. A legal requirement in many cases, the risk assessment
examines which factors could potentially lead to a fire. Find out everything from how to conduct an assessment to the different types of assessment. (pg 19) Lifts play a vital role in keeping building occupants safe in the event of a fire and the new Building Safety Act brings in important ammendements for evacuation equipment including lifts.
