EDITOR’S COMMENT & CONTENTS New features reflect carbon challenge

T

he carbon reduction challenge is expected to intensify as we inch closer to the Net Zero by 2050 emissions deadline, and the built environment has

to be prepared. This is why BSEE has refreshed its features this year to

reflect all the latest sustainable developments as well as new and upcoming regulations and standards. Within our Net Zero & Zero Carbon Buildings feature Mitsubishi calls for a focus on operational carbon to make new and existing buildings greener, while TRILUX highlights the opportunities out there to make energy savings through efficient lighting.

All the above will also be encompassed in the agenda for the Building Services Forum (BSF) with an all-important focus on retrofit this year.

Held on June 6, the BSF will welcome expert speakers from top industry firms and trade bodies including

the Building Engineering Services Association (BESA). Also of interest to the building services professional in this issue is our new focus on Smart Buildings, Building Controls & Green Building Solutions. Aermec comes at the subject from the angle of maximising cooling efficiency through smarter compressor controllers, while Helvar pushes the idea of smart environmental sensing.

It’s also the one time of the year we focus on Facilities Management – key to choosing and employing energy efficient and sustainable products and practices. Here, Martin Huber of Amrax addresses the concept of virtualisation of facility structures, while Airedale’s Ed Burnett, examines what the revised HTM 03-01 (2021) guidelines on ventilation for healthcare buildings has meant for the HVAC industry. Happy Reading!
