elcome to the July/August issue of Electrical Engineering magazine. Since the last issue, politics has been the main feature in the media, ever since Boris Johnson announced that he would stand aside. In just a few weeks, either Rishi Sunak or Liz Truss
will become the new Prime Minister and I hope that engineering will become a key focus for the new government. For too long engineering has been way down the list of priorities of this government, and this
must change. In these summer months – often referred to as the silly season, with so many people on their annual
holiday – it’s common for decent news to wait until the schools are back before being broadcast. I am delighted that Schneider Electric has announced a series of updates to its vendor-agnostic and
CPD-accredited digital education platform, the Schneider Electric University. Available in 14 different languages and accessible globally for free online, the dedicated professional
development platform directly addresses the data centre sector skills gap, helping industry stakeholders to upskill and stay up-to-date with the latest technology, sustainability, and energy efficiency initiatives affecting the sector. I’m also pleased to report that AEI Cables has won further valuable support for its initiative highlighting
the need for only using approved cabling in a range of critical applications of Category 3 Control fire performance cables. Sharon Hodgson, Labour MP for Washington and Sunderland West, is supporting the initiative to raise
