ECA and FSA members voice concern over Wales apprenticeship cuts
O
ver 60 employers from across Wales including several ECA and FSA Members have joined together to call for funding for the Welsh Government flagship apprenticeship programme to be protected, to ensure the economic prosperity of Wales. In an open letter, employers say that cuts to the apprenticeship programme announced by Welsh Government will have a devastating effect on apprentices, employers, and communities, signalling very challenging times ahead for the FE and work-based learning sectors. It could mean 10,000 fewer apprentices able to start next year, with the reductions falling
disproportionately on young people, and those in the lowest socio-economic groups. Reacting to the Welsh Government’s draft budget, ColegauCymru chief executive, David Hagendyk, said: “As Wales navigates turbulent economic times, colleges are the skills engine needed to drive our economic recovery, and it is critical that future inward investment is not damaged. “The draft budget is a huge gamble for Wales’ economy and communities. The Welsh Government must think again and reverse the catastrophic decision to cut the apprenticeship programme.”

Martindale Electric introduces new Drummond test lamp and proving kit
M
artindale Electric has launched the Drummond MTL15 Test Lamp and the
MTL15PD-S Kit, which includes a test lamp and proving kit.
The new Drummond MTL15 test lamp extends the application areas for Drummond test lamps to higher voltage installations. With AC/DC voltage indication thresholds of 50, 230, 400 and 690V plus a 1000V CAT IV safety rating, the MTL15 is the ideal solution for proving dead in all installation categories as defined in BS EN 61010.
In common with all the existing Drummond MTL Series, the MTL15 test lamp does not require batteries and has no ranges or switches ensuring reliable indication of hazardous voltages every time. The MTL15 is compatible with the six existing interchangeable test probes accessories to aid safe and easy

measurement in all types of application particularly where access is restricted. In addition to the two standard 62mm straight probes, a 62mm angle probe is also included.
High-intensity LEDs give 360-degree visibility of hazardous voltage levels, even in bright sunlight, allowing users to easily differentiate between source voltages of varying supply types and precisely identify potentially lethal supply voltages exceeding 50V. The MTL15PD-S encompasses the MTL15 test lamp complete with the PD690S proving device, all housed within the convenient TC71 Combination Carry Case. This TC71 soft carry case ensures that the proving device is always on hand and provides the simplest solution for implementing safe isolation practices onsite in accordance the Electricity at Work Regulations. For convenience and to save time, the proving unit can be used without having to remove it from the case. The PD690S voltage and power output is matched to the MTL15 to illuminate all voltage bands and prove the test lamp is functioning correctly.
