Advice

Power on

Apprenticeships are available in a wide range of industries and can help you launch a successful career

A

pprenticeships are for people and organisations that want to fi re up their career and business. They are for self-starters, for people

that are ready to get going and have the energy to do it for themselves. If this sounds like you, with an “I’m ready now” spirit, then an apprenticeship could be the right choice. Apprenticeships are available in many job

roles, across a wide range of industries and organisations, giving individuals opportunities to gain the skills and knowledge they need to succeed – in many cases up to degree level – while working and earning. There are apprenticeships being offered

by businesses in a variety of new and exciting roles, from advertising, youth work and environmental engineering to nursing, manufacturing and nuclear decommissioning. With three levels of apprenticeship available – intermediate, advanced and higher/degree – opportunities are available all year. The number of higher

and degree apprenticeships are increasing, and often include foundation degrees, higher national diplomas, full honours degrees and professional qualifi cations. More of these apprenticeships are being offered each year, giving individuals the chance to continue their professional development and to fully realise their potential.

The new national apprenticeship campaign highlights how choosing an apprenticeship as the route to a great career can become the norm for individuals. Apprenticeships not only provide people with the skills needed to progress in their chosen industry, but they also offer real opportunities thereafter. Research shows that after fi nishing their apprenticeship, the majority of apprentices (88 per cent) stay in sustained employment. There are many benefi ts to apprenticeships. Not only do apprentices gain qualifi cations, earn a salary and progress in their careers, they benefi t fi nancially. Those who complete

an intermediate apprenticeship earn, on average, between £48,000 and £74,000 more over their lifetime than similar individuals with other Level 2 qualifi cations. Those completing an advanced apprenticeship can earn, on average, between £77,000 and £117,000 more over their lifetime than their peers. And those completing a higher apprenticeship could see increased earnings of an estimated £150,000 over their lifetime. Power ahead and become an apprentice.
