EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Los Suruba, the dynamic DJ and production duo from Spain, have built a reputation over the years for pushing boundaries in the world of electronic music. Known for their adventurous approach to sound, the pair’s latest project, Las Bestias de Xarraca, represents a bold step into the unknown. This track is not just another release in the ever-expanding world of electronic music; it is an exploration of the untamed, a reflection of the primal energy that pulses through the island of Ibiza.

In an exclusive interview, Los Suruba opened up about the raw, visceral nature of their latest work, how it draws inspiration from the island’s magical energy, and the evolving underground scene of Ibiza.

A Magical Birth: The Story Behind Las Bestias de Xarraca

The creation of Las Bestias de Xarraca was as spontaneous and organic as the music itself. Delmar, one half of Los Suruba, recalls how the idea for the project emerged in a moment of musical serendipity: “Everything started the day we met Inkrustart. He invited us to his place, and after playing music together, at one point, I heard a voice that immediately captured my attention. I approached the booth to ask what track it was, and I realized it was him singing live. I was impres- sed. It was then that the idea of collaborating emerged, and everything flowed naturally, without overthinking.”

This initial connection with Inkrustart was the spark that set the project in motion. But it wasn’t just about collaborating; it was about exploring new sound territory. Los Suruba wanted to break free from the conventional, embracing a more visceral, punk-in- fused, and minimalist approach. As they explain: “Artistically, this project reflects our need to explore more visceral, punk, and minimalist sounds, moving away from conventional structures. We have always felt a deep connection to the energy of nature and that of Ibiza. This piece is the result of channeling all of that into our music.”

Ibiza has long been a source of artistic inspiration for

embedded in Las Bestias de Xarraca. Their sound captures the island’s raw and untamed energy, celebrating the underground side of Ibiza, particularly from the northern parts of the island, which have remained largely untouched by mainstream trends. “We wanted to reflect and give space to the under- ground side of Ibiza,” they explain. “We always strive to produce something that sounds new, and we believe that with this track—thanks to Inkrustart’s unique singing style and the blend of everything—it has come together beautifully, honestly.”

The Dance Between Precision and Instinct

What sets Las Bestias de Xarraca apart from typical electronic music is its embrace of unpredictability and organic flow. While many electronic tracks are built on intricate structures, this release leans heavily into the raw, almost tribal energy of the music, allowing it to breathe freely without rigid constraints. For Los Suruba, this was a natural process that came together with ease and fluidity.

“We achieved the balance in a natural way,” they share. “We created a simple base, and then Sergio (Inkrustart) brought his lyrics and began to sing over that founda- tion. We noticed that it was working, and once we had those parts in place, we started building. We created a

bass line, knowing that typically the singer adapts to the melody or the style of the song. However, it felt like putting together a puzzle; everything came together very smoothly and effortlessly.” This ease and fluidity is a hallmark of Los Suruba’s creative process. They have always believed in letting instinct guide their work, avoiding the trap of overthinking. As they put it: “The songs that always succeed are the ones that come together more fluidly and instinctively.” It’s this organic approach that allowed them to create a track that resonates with such primal energy, making it feel both authentic and powerful.

Ibiza’s Influence: Myths, Landscapes, and Spirit

Ibiza has always held a special place in the hearts of Los Suruba. Their connection to the island dates back to their first visit in 1998, a moment that sparked a lifelong love affair with its energy and spirit. “From the very first time we came here in 1998, we felt a kind of love at first sight and a strong attraction to this place,” they recall. “It became a dream for us to one day be able to dedicate ourselves to this and live here.”

For them, Ibiza is more than just a party destination; it’s a spiritual and artistic haven that feeds their creativity. In their music, they’ve always sought to capture the magic and energy they felt during their early visits, and Las Bestias de Xarraca is no exception. The track’s title references Xarraca, a secluded spot in the north of the island, which has long been a sanctuary for locals and artists. “Xarraca is a beach in the north of the island,” they explain. “For a while, it was taken over by a flood of influencers after a rope was hung there, and people would queue up ridiculously just to take a picture with it. But before that, it was a magical place where locals used to go, and still do, a hidden gem that no one really knew about.”

For Los Suruba, Xarraca represents the spirit of Ibiza— the untouched, the authentic, and the mystical. They wanted to encapsulate that essence in their music, re- flecting the power and beauty of the island’s more hid- den, untapped corners. The result is a track that is both raw and authentic, grounded in the land and its myths. A Vision Beyond Music

While Las Bestias de Xarraca is a sonic fantasy, it is also the beginning of a larger artistic exploration for Los Suruba. The duo has always been interested in blending music with other forms of art, and this pro- ject has pushed them to expand their creative horizons even further.

They’ve spent months working on the vinyl artwork, ensuring that the visual side of the project matches the energy of the music. “This is a special project, and it has led us to develop a design that feels as unique as the track itself,” they say. “We’re so happy with how everything is turning out that, in the end, this song feels so special to us that it has actually been the spark that motivated us to relaunch our label, Suruba.”

Their commitment to the visual side of the project is also evident in their future plans, which include a collaboration with a clothing brand and the develo- pment of immersive experiences. “We’re working on visuals, but we don’t want our sets to be based on an audiovisual concept. We’re DJs first and foremost,
