NUMBER #03

Dear Readers:

The Caribbean doesn’t move to be seen. It moves because stillness has never belonged here. Air thick with salt and heat, rhythm carrying across distances without asking permission. What happens in these spaces isn’t performed. It accumulates.

This issue leans into that weight.

Cocodrills take the cover without ce- remony. There’s something instincti- ve in their presence, a raw alignment between body and sound that resists overthinking. It’s not about arrival, or definition. It’s about momentum. The kind that builds quietly, then refuses to recede. What they hold isn’t spec- tacle, but pressure. A forward motion that doesn’t look back.

Around them, everything feels slightly loosened. Edges blur. Time stretches.

The same names appear, but they carry differently here. Less contained. More exposed to the elements. There’s a softness in the way things connect, even at their most intense. Not delica- te, but fluid. Rhythms that don’t land so much as pass through. Moments that feel borrowed from somewhere else, then reshaped in the heat.

Nothing insists on permanence. That’s the point.

Sergio G. Niño mixmag NL Editor in Chief

There’s a long history in the Caribbean of sound as survival, as release, as transformation. Not fixed forms, but living ones. Always shifting, always absorbing. This issue doesn’t try to frame that lineage. It moves alongsi- de it, briefly, aware that it will continue long after.

What remains isn’t a statement. It’s a sensation.

Something warm, unresolved, and al- ready slipping into its next form.
