SCUBA SCOUTS: Members from St Mary Magdalene and 1st Clitheroe Scouts are put through their underwater paces, (s) '

Scuba diving Scouts

TWENTY-SIX Scouts and leaders from t\yq Clithcroe troops undertook a scuba diving session to experience life underwa ter and qualify for the watersports badge. The troops from St Mary Magdalene

and 1st Clitheroe Scouts joined forces for the session in Ribblesdale Pool, which was run by Reefers and Wreckers Diving School, of Barrow. The Scouts underwent an hour’s instruc

tion on the poolside, then kitted up for two hours in the water, experiencing both

snorkelling and full scuba diving. Jenny MacDowall, leader of the St

Mary’s troop and who organised the ac tivity, said: “This was a great opportunity for the Scouts to tiy something completely different and they all had a fantastic time. The instructors from Reefers and Wreck ers were brilliant and made everyone feel confident underwater.” All the Scouts gained their PADI Dis

cover Scuba Diver certificate as well as having a great day at the pool.

ART WITH A HEART: From the

UK, painter Jo Taylor and sculp tor Clare Bigger.

CLITHEROE-BASED solicitors Cheneiy Maher has presented local older people’s charity Age UK Lan cashire with a cheque for £1,000 as

a contribution towards its work in the Ribble Valley. The money was raised by sales commis

sions and donations taken at an art exhibi tion hosted by Chenery Maher last year. It marked the launch of the charitys

new identity, after a change in name from Age Concern Lancashire. The exhibi tion featured two prominent local artists, sculptor Clare Bigger and painter Jo Tay lor, who joined Carol Maher and Irene

Cheneiy to present the cheque to Age UK Lancashire.

Geraldine Moore, Chief Officer at Age

UK Lancashire, said: “Age UK Lancashire is a local charity, working to enable older people across the county to make more of life. We were thrilled that Cheneiy Maher supported us in such a generous way with the art exhibition and we are really grate ful for their ongoing support.” Carol Maher, of Chenery Maher, said:

“Teaming up with Clare and Jo to raise funds for such a good cause provided an opportunity for us to give something back to the local community whilst enjoying ourselves immensely.”
