PLANS are in hand to resurrect one of Clitheroe’s most famous tra ditions - its Torchlight Procession

and Fireworks Display. The last “Clitheroe Torchlight” was

back in 2002, in honour of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee, but now a working group is up and running with the aim of staging one on Saturday September 8th, 2012, to commemorate both the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the stag ing of the Olympic Games in London. Preliminary arrangements are being

made by Clitheroe, Town Council in consultation with Ribble.Valley Bor ough Council and other local organisa tions and individuals. The 2012 event will be similar to

those organised in the past, taking into account Health and Safety Regulations.

It will rely on the generosity of the lo cal community and every effort will be made to make it self-financing. The Torchlight Working Group held

its first meeting on Februa^ 2nd and its chairman, Peter Moore, is optimistic that, with the help and support of the local community, the 2012 Torchlight will be the best yet. He added that plans would be made

to stage other attractions on the Clit heroe Castle field throughout the day, which will include local bands to play along with Morris dancing groups. Although arrangements are in the

very early stages, organisations wish ing to take part in the procession are welcome to register their interest by, calling Clitheroe Town Council Clerk Ian Woblstencrqft on 01200 424722, between,9 a.m. and 1 p.m. or e-mail him at: clitheroe@btconnect.com, or Peter Moore on 01200 424151, e-mail: peter21.m6ore@orangehome.co.uk ,
