Changes to plan for 80 Whalley homes

tioii held at Whalley Abbey last month. Around 240 people attended the eidiibi- tion to view the outline plans, speak to members of the development team and provide their views on the proposals. Tom Whitehead, Strategic Planning

Manager at Co-operative States, said: •‘We’re grateful to everyone who con tributed to the consultation process and gave us their views. We have reviewed

all the comments and suggestions made and these have been taken into consid eration during the preparation of the application. It is as a response to the feedback received during the consulta tion that significant changes to the mas terplan have been made.” Those changes include: -

• ® As a direct result of points raised during one-to-one meetings at the ex hibition and following consultation with Lancashire County Council, vehicular access from Hayhurst Road rather than Riddings Lane has been selected. 9 The masterplan’s indicative layout

has been amended to address concerns from nearby residential properties over potential nuisance.

Tories greet villages ‘right to build’ move

RIBBLE Valley’s 44 villages could benefit from a new right to build programme proposed by the Govern ment, say local Conservatives. The proposals would allow rural

communities to allow the building of homes in their villages with minimum planning requirements. Coun. Ken Hind, a Conservative

■ member of Ribble Valley Borough Council’s housing and health com mittee, said: “We are (lonstantly pressed by people who reside in ru ral villages tliat tlieir children have to leave'to live elsewhere because tliey cannot afford to buy houses in the vil lage where they were brought up. “Tliere is a, need for affordable

housing in the villages for the chil dren of residents to start on the hous-' ing ladder .and this new programme will give local communities the right to build free of a lot of the rules of: planning legislation. The com'mu- nity at large will decide if the housing project goes ahead.” . - Housing Minister-Grant Shapps

has called on rural communities to work together and prepare'for this new Community Rieht to Build.

which will be introduced in the forth coming Localism Bill. Coun. I-Tind explained; “Local ru

ral housing projects that secure the support of 75% of voters'and meet minimum planning criteria will go ahead without the need for a specific

. application for planning permission. “ Initially, Ministers had proposed

a 90% threshold for the approval of projects proposed through Right to Build, but it became clear that there was a strong preference for a lower threshold. “Under the proposed new Com

munity Right to Build local people will be able to deliver the homes they really, want, rather than being told

. their expansion plans don’t fit into the.local council’s plans and there fore cannot go ahead.’’ Mr Shapps said: “No-one knows

the challenges that rural communi- ties'face better than the people who liye there.. I want to give them the power and the freedom to tackle lo cal issues with local solutions through' the Community Right to Build, so

■ they can give the go-ahead to the new homes their area needs.” , -

CASHBACK: Fund-raising staff at the Sainsbury’s store, Clitheroe, have presented a cheque for £500 to St Mary’s Pri

mary. School at Langho. Our picture shows Deputy Store Man

ager Maureen Hindle presenting the, cheque to some of the school council members. They were extremely pleased to re ceive the money and have already made plans for it’s use to benefit the whole school.

Mr Whitehead added: “Now tliat the

planning application has been submit ted, we remain committed to engaging with and responding to the community; politicians and stakeholders and will continue to maintain dialogue through-

• out the planning process.” The plans are available to view on the

council’s website (www.ribblevalley.gov. uk/planning) and at its offices in Church Walk, Clitheroe. Once the application is registered, the public has 21 days to submit their formal comments in writ ing to Ribble Valley Borough Council. More information can also be ob

IMAGES for the new Dugdales Nutrition Calendar were pro7

Club picks its calendar contenders

jected at an informal and enjoyable meet ing of Ribblesdale Camera Club. . Clitheroe-based

farm feeds supplier Dugdales Nutrition has sponsored the : club for many years ■ and offers members the chance of getting' their pictures into print through the calendar, which has a circulation of many thousands to Dug- ' ■ dales’clients'. • The brief is very

loose - just a rural and farming theme, gener ally within Dugdales’ area of sales. The club looked at

the pictures submit ted by its members, choosing about 40 of them for a second run through. Each member voted

for their favourite image. □lairman Nigel

Mallinson’s “Oo U looking at then” entry -probably what the rather confrontation al-looking spotted pig was thinking as Nigel took the picture - was a popular choice. On Saturday, the

club will host the In- ter-Club Photograph ic Alliance’s A(jM when the winning prints from the annual competition will be exliibited. It is also hoped

to run the digital images through, not - least because the local club received first and second place in the Alliance’s competition for 17 east Lancashire and North Manches ter camera clubs.
