THE spring of 2003 marked a new chapter in the life of Simp sons the motor dealership, found ed 63-years ago by Edgar Simp son.

Edgar was the father of the

current managing director, Clif ford, and grandfather to Neil Simpson, retailer principal of the Skoda dealership for Colne and the surrounding area. The com pany, still a family-owned busi ness today, joined the Skoda brand, a move which has proved to be very popular to say the least. Demand for Skodas has risen

rapidly and the decision to take on this popular franchise has

been well and truly vindicated. Until recently, Simpsons Skoda

was operating from its old site in Knotts Lane, Colne. However, for around a month,

Simpson’s Skoda has been ensconced in its brand new pur pose-built complex constructed on the former Simpson’s site at Boundary Garage, Burnley Road in Colne. The new building meets the

Skoda from its retailer network and includes an impressive new showroom along with large parts and accessories shop and state- of-the-art servicing and M.O.T facilities. Simpsons Skoda is holding an

day 1st, Sunday 2nd and Mon day 3rd of May, you will be able to take advantage of some amaz ingly attractive offers on new and used Skodas along with a great selection of other used cars right across the entire four days! There has never been a better

Locals see title slip

PROMOTED Clitheroe B missed out on the Black burn and District Bad minton Association Second Division title in their final game. The locals took on sec

ond-placed St Philip’s requiring six wins from the 16 games for the champi onship. The first game was an

indication of things to come as Tony Bush and Sheila Perry failed to take any of five game points. Damian Evans and Julie

Pym, and Mark Perry and Liz Maskell, won a mixed doubles each to keep Clitheroe’s hopes alive. Two further ladies’ dou

bles wins from Lisa Fielding and Perry, and Pym and Maskell, left the men need ing two wins from the last four games, but they were unable to win a single game, leaving Clitheroe having to be satisfied with promotion. • Club sessions continue

on Thursday evenings at Moorland School, between 8-10 p.m.

Whalley’s '' fine start

BOTH Whalley’s A and B teams got off to a flying start in the East Lan cashire Open Tennis League. The newly-promoted A

team beat Blackburn Northern B 4-1. The first pairing of

Andrew Moore and Richard Lambert droppe- donly six games in their ^ two rubbers, while second string Mathew Cuynes and Gerry Breese won a tight three-setter in their opening contest, before succumbing to the Black burn first pairing in their second match. After their cup win against Accrington, Whal-

ley B won all four rubbers against Feniscowles B. The pairings of Gordon

Pimherton and Guy Purves, david Walters and Andrew Cuynes were in scintillating form as they raced to a 5-0 victory.
