World War. He flew in Wellingtons


with 37 and la ter 40 Squadron, seeing action both from home bases and


in Iceland, Italy and the


Middle East. After the war Mr Sykes


returned to Keighley, and was a key figure at St Mark's Church, Utley, where he was a warden. Keenly interested in


reading, gardening, music, antiques and wildlife, Mr Sykes came to the area after his marriage to Mrs Doreen Watson. He leaves a son, a daughter and two stepsons. The Rev. Alan Bailey and


Mr Peter Watson paid trib­ ute to Mr Sykes at Mon­ day's funeral service in St Helen's Church, and there was a reading by Mr John Sykes. Cremation followed at Skipton.
