week’s meeting of the High ways and Transportation

Committee. The main problem is the

narrow Black Bull corner. Drivers of car transporters have occasionally found it impossible to negotiate the tight corner and have had to unload, causing havoc to

other traffic. The village parish coimcil

has been asking for a limit to be placed on the length of vehicles p e rmitted to pass along Blackburn

Road, th e l im it to be applicable to through traf fic and n o t to affect the activities of haulage and other local business which need th e road to gain access. The p a r ish council has

reported signs and lights near the junction regularly being damaged by heavy vehicles. Vehicles mounting the pavement cause danger to pedestrians and proper ty and councillors say there are also problems of noise, vibration and speed. If emergency services were

needed, residents believe th a t th ey too could be severely hampered. L etters objecting to the

size of vehicles using the road have been sent to Lan cashire County Council by residents of Preston Road and Blackburn Road. Preparing for Wednesday’s meeting, councillors have gathered together details of incidents which have taken place on the Black Bull cor ner and re sidents’ views have been p u t forward, detailing problems, also photographs to illustrate

the points raised. The report has also been

forwarded to Ribble Valley Borough Council’s Chief Planning Officer, Mr Stu a r t Bailey, and the county council representative for the area, Mrs Mary Wil son, has been asked for her

support.

Intruders at isolated property A BURGLARY at an isolated property in Worston failed when the intruders activated the

alarm. The incident happened between 11-30 a.m. and 1-35 p.m. *_

on Thursday. Access was gained to the property via a flat roof a t the rear. A window leading to stairs was smashed. The thieves escaped undetected, b ut managed to steal a

box of costume jewellery before fleeing. Anyone who may have any information is urged to con tact Clitheroe police on 01200 443344.

barrier suitable for flood prevention. But Ribble Valley Borough Council’s engineers have not

yet received the report from county council staff who octiully carried out the trials, members of the Flanmng

whose houses have been subject to flooding from the River Ribble, are pressing the council for an early meeting to

discuss the plans. The provisional estimate for the work is £54,000, some of

which will come from grants, but none of the money will be available until the financial year starting next April. I t is hoped that the meeting with residents will take place next month, but this has yet to be confirmed.
