SIX weeks after the new Longridge man­ agement team took over Clitheroe’s Civic Hall Cinema, the first 18 certificate film has


been screened. The film “Dracula” came


to the celluloid screen with the husband and wife team of John and Dorothy Wil­ liamson insisting that they will continue to exercise control over the kind of films shown to the Ribble Valley public.


“We are cautious about


the type of films we will show, but I don’t think


that we should be judge and jury about what peo­ ple want to watch,” said Mr Williamson. “How­ ever, we still won’t show f i lm s t h a t c o n ta in excessive sex or exces­ sively violent scenes.”


Mr Williamson, who


brings 35 years of cinema experience to Clitheroe, insists that there will be a relaxation of the policy employed by the previous management team. “We shall open the gates a little wider than before,” he added.


The Goosnargh-based couple, who have taken on


the part-time job of run­ n ing th e Civic Hall, bought their first cinema,


the Palace in Longridge, in 1972. They have also managed a twin cinema in Skelmersdale and the Royal Pavilion cinema in Blackpool. The Palace closed last


year, after the Ribble Val­ ley Council insisted on modifications to the build­ ing, which would have made its continuity not economically viable. The Williamsons now


plan to put all their efforts into making the Civic Hall a success. “We intend to employ the same ideas on
