their eyes. But it is not a mirage or some other illusion, for the


17th-century building has been imaginatively transformed into the village’s first high-class opticians, fully equipped with all the latest technology and designs. Thomson’s Opticians

opened at the end of November and its owners, Gerald and Diana Moore, have been overwhelmed by the response. The conversion took six


months to complete and consisted of the complete gutting and rebuilding of the King Street premises. “It has been enormously


successful,” said Mr Moore. “We have 11 other practices and the Whalley one has had the best take-off response of any.”

are situated in Ansdell, Preston, Bamber Bridge, Burnley, Fulwood, Garstang, Kirkham, Longridge,J5t Annes,


Poulton-Te-Fylde and Lytham, where the head office is based. Mr and Mrs Moore


travel all over the world in their quest to find the best for their patients. This year, they have


planned trips to optical fairs in Singapore, Paris, Milan and Birmingham. “ It is important that we


keep up to date with all the new developments in


the profession,” said Mr Moore. This certainly pays divi- blei


dends, as it enables Thomson’s to offer some exotic state-of-the-art designs, and these are proving very popular. “We stock as wide a


range of frames as possible and we are always updating our selection,” said Mr Moore. Among the impressive


selection of frames and lenses on offer are such famous names as Carl Zeiss, Sillouettc and state of the art Cazal, Essilor from France, the latest


addition being from Jaeger. The company was
