f* .-rv/-*. :* r trade rubbish
BUSINESSES in the Ribble Valley will soon have a new way of disposing of their rubbish.
Council’s Public Works and Health Comittee has agreed to implement a system of prepaid plastic sacks and stickers for the collection of trade waste from October 1st. The sacks and stickers
I li e Rib b le Valley be no need to check on the
accuracy of the trade refuse agreement, making the system simpler to administer. The sacks and stickers
will be of heavy plastic, coloured and printed to identify them as being trade waste sacks obtained from the council. Trade waste will only be col lected if it is put into these sacks. In the case of materials which are diffi cult to bag, traders will be required to bundle these into approximate bag sized bundles and attach a self adhesive sticker to them. Currently, the number
of trade refuse bins col lected each week from individual premises are assessed and charged at 21p per bin per
week.Ac- eounts are sent to approxi mately 510 businesses at the beginning of each financial year, but there is no regular check that the number of trade refuse bins collected corresponds to tlie charges levied. The cost of the new
plastic sack or sticker will be 30p and the minimum purchase will be one unit of 50 sacks at £15 + VAT. Borough Health and
Housing Officer Mr Dave Morris said in his report to the meeting that collection will be easier, quicker and more hygienic for the refuse collectors. It will prevent abuse, as only bagged trade refuse will be removed, so there will

BRIDGE CLUB
WINNERS o f the duplicate game at Clitheroe Bridge Club
were: NS Mrs Kazaekerley and Mr Ciuha, Mr Roberts and Air Morris: EW Mrs Aston and Mr Noble, Mr and Mrs Meakin. The fo llow in g hand was
usually plaved in five dubs by south doubled by west. At one table west led the ace of spades, which declarer ruffed. The ace and king of hearts were cashed and the third heart was ruffed in dummy. Another spade was ruffed and
the king of clubs was won with the ace. West then cashed his ace of diamonds and this allowed declarer to make his king for the
llth trick. If declarer plays clubs after
winning the first trick, and west wins and returns the heart queen, then if declarer wins tins and plays all his clubs, which four cards would west keep? Most players, knowing declarer was void of spades, would keep either the ace o f diamonds and three hearts, or two hearts and the ace and queen of diamonds. In the first case, when the
queen of diamonds is discarded on the last club, declarer should lead his low diamond, which west would have to win with his ace. He would then have to lead a heart, so declarer would make 11 tricks. In the second case, declarer
would cash his king of hearts, lead his last heart, which west would have to win. and lead away from the ace and oueen of d i a iu o n d s , again all n w i n g declarer to make 11 tricks. S dealer, game all
